sheefreak Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Impact is the way to go to remove the nut on clutch basket w/o the holder. Torqeing it back on is the trick. You can shove a rag in between the clutch basket gear and the crank/primary drive gear to hold the basket from moveing, but have to some how hold the inner hub from moveing. It can be done w/a friend and a few chisels or screwdrivers, but it might be wise to invest in the clutch holding tool as it is easy to slip and break shit w/the screwdriver method. You don't need to remove the gear from the clutch basket, it pulls right off together. And if I remember right, the kicker gear comes off pretty easily, may want to get input from some of the other guys on exact details, I forget. Quote

racer Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 the large primary on the clutch basket is riveted on, if its a factory basket. dunno about hinsons. im unsure as to which gear you are talking about. but in that whole complex there are only two har gears to deal with. the one on the basket, and the one on the crank. the one on the crank is removable, but its got to be pressed on. impacts are the only way to go on that nut bro. on and off. replace the bend washer behind the clutch basket nut too! rebelbanshee2 Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 to keep the nut from spinning take a steel and a fiber clutch plate and bolt them together. with this installed your clutch is locked together. now you can use a rag or penny between the gears to remove/install. Quote
