01blaster240 Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Ok guys i have a 1997 banshee and i just put new clutches in it and it will only shift into first and second gear what could be causing that thanks alot Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 i kinda had this problem. except my clucth woudlnt work so i had to push it to get it in first and then go from there. there is a lil rod that goes from one side of your engine to the other. that could be the problem Quote
spoin39 Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 (edited) Your shift detent came off the shift star, if you take the clutch cover off, and look at the shift star, you will see the ratchet with a hook on both ends (this is attached to your shift rod). Take a screw driver and pop it back into place, it will happen again if you don't replace the rod and detent though! Edited March 22, 2005 by spoin39 Quote
spoin39 Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 (edited) To make this easy, tip the bike over on it's left side, you won't have to drain all the fluids out, and makes it easier to work on. I have done this many times at the track in between motos! Edited March 22, 2005 by spoin39 Quote

fixitrod Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 I've seen that too. You can get a new one realitivley cheap from the dealer. It's a shift shaft. You may just be way out of adjustment or you bent it while in there two. I don't know if you took the basket off or not though. Quote
