tschoeberl Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 I am replacing my stock axle to a round house carrier swingarm. My problem is that I don't know what the proper way is to tighten the two axle nuts on it. I don't have the axle nut wrenches and was wondering how everyone else tightens theirs? I don't want to make them too loose or too tight. Any help would be appreciated. I love this website!!! This place has the best advice and I wouldn't trust anyone else but the guys/gals from here. Thanks... Quote
Holyman Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 What kind of bearings are you using in the carrier? Are they tapered or ball bearings? Quote
05bansh Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 out of curiosity how much did you get your round house for? I have been looking into getting one. Quote

Holyman Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Ball bearings carriers are MUCH more common than those that use tapered bearings. Ball bearing carriers use the same bearings as the stock carrier and if you look inside the carrier, there should be a loose tube that goes between the bearings. The tapered bearing carriers do not use the tube. Tapered bearings can easily be over tightened and require a "wave washer" to maintain the tightness. Ball bearings can and should be tightened down very hard and then the second nut should be tightened against the first nut until your veins bulge out of your neck. Tell us where you got the carrier and/or show us a pic and maybe we can help you more. Quote
tschoeberl Posted February 13, 2005 Author Report Posted February 13, 2005 Kind of sounds like a ball bearing carrier. He said that it has the tube in it. If I have to get replacement parts for it, where can I go to get them and are they expensive? I am buying it from a friend. Here is a picture of part of the housing. Not sure if this helps any. If not I can see if he will send me another picture of it. Quote
