endofitall9 Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 Posting this for a buddy that just recently blew his 450 up. We took it back to yamaha, hes only had it for 7 months and they tore it down while we were there you should have seen the damage. Cracked jug, bent valves, bent rod, scarred crank, cams are gone, and case has a big nick in it. We asked what made it do this and the yamaha guys said the way you have rode it and when you downshift you should only go down one gear coming out of turns. He said that the rod was the part that caused it because it bent. I thought this was a load of BS because this is my buddies first 4 wheeler and he doesnt ride like that just rides in the woods, we informed the guy about this and then his answer went to well if you want the truth all of the new 450s have been having this problem. So my buddie plans to build it the best he can. I get news from another friend that has one and he has put the yzf 450 cams in his 450 and said it made a tremendous difference overall on the bike. Well yamaha is building the bike back for him and only covered half the cost under warranty and he still has to pay $2100 for them too fix his half whatever that may be and they said they bought the most expensive stuff! He called and told yamaha he wanted the yzf cams in it and there answer to this was in cannot be done and if it were to be done by them they wouldnt guarantee it, so after an hr on the phone about this the yamaha guy finally says it will work but youll lose most of your low end and midrange power but gain extremely on the top end. Thats amazing consider my other friend that done it races mx. Well the whole point of this story is to ask you guy if you have heard of this mod and to tell you all to watch out for the new 450s also the guy said the 450 shocks wouldnt fit on a banshee thats too bad theyre on mine.........lol later guys Quote
Wallrat Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 There's a cam mod that you can do that will lose a hair of bottom end and gain on top but that's with the stock cams. I'd check over at www.yfzcentral.com they probably could answer you better. Quote
