KoooPSD Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Just wandering on a stock shee if a timing plate would help me out.......just looking for some cheap mods for the winter untill i start mowing grass in the summer to get some cash to get some pipes and other shit Quote
Meat Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 (edited) No. Advancing the timing is something that should be done to compliment a set of aftermarket pipes. You will feel a powergain with a "degree key" or a timing plate, but not like you would if you had aftermarket pipes... and then advanced the timing. The stock timing is setup to work with the stock pipes. Correct way: Pipes first, then timing advance. Bass Ackwards way: Advance the timing, then pipes. Edited December 22, 2004 by Meat Quote

KoooPSD Posted December 22, 2004 Author Report Posted December 22, 2004 By the way Meat...i read a few posts a while ago about that Coal Hill in PA......what town is that located in, a buddy of mine are looking somewhere to go riding in the summer. He found slippery rock sand dunes, have you heard anything about them? Quote
Meat Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 drop a tooth on your front sprocket. stock is 14, try out a 13. Its not really a powergain..... but ya know how it works... gearing down will give ya that low end your wanting. Its "give and take" tho, you'll lose some top end speed. A sprocket should cost less than $15, its worth a try. I run a 13 on mine and like it, im not WOT in 6th gear very often and I ride trails so the 13 works for me. Ya gotta shift a little more often with the 13, but you get used to it. Shavin' the head will give you real world "low end" powergains. Get "Boonman" to hook you up with a shave. Its not expensive. I see you have an '04 model. Take of the snorkle attached to the airbox lid and if your feelin' crazy, take the whole farkin' airbox lid off. If you do decide to remove the airbox lid you'll need something to hold the airfilter tight in the airbox so you don't suck in dirt. Aluminum flanges that bolt to the inside of your airbox and then you attach the airfilter to this flange is one method, another method is to just bolt the stock plastic airfilter flange to the inside of the airbox. You'll understand when you look in your airbox. FYI, the airbox lid is designed to hold the airfilter in place, you will absolutly have to rig up the filter if you decide to keep the airbox lid off. You'll also need to rejet for the extra airflow. Stock main jets are 200. Start with 250s and work up and down with the jet sizes until you find the right one. Quote
Meat Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 wow look at this fantabulous Ebay auction..... (its my auction) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=4513277942 Slippery Rock is out there in western pa..... around your part of the state, Jonhstown\Pittsburg. Me and Coal Hill are from the east central part of the state. Anthracite coal region north of Harrisburg, south of Williamsport, east of State College and west of Allentown. Quote
racer Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 i second the airbox lid amputation. its a nice simple power gainer. a new front sprocket can be found for as little as 6.99 (or was it 7.99?) from rockymountainatv.com. meats auction item is a great solution to the airbox problem as well. ill actually be picking myself up one of those next month. KoooPSD Posted December 22, 2004 Author Report Posted December 22, 2004 That picture looks sick as hell, this summer i might have to take a trip out there. That air filter would be nice but most the trails i ride in J-town are mostly old river beds and shit so water/mud wouldn't agree too well...I'm going to have to pick up a new sprocket, just hope i still have a enough top end to hang with moded YFZ's....Trails are closing left and right around here and that requires the road to get to other trails....... Dont really agree with it, and hate getting chased by the cops, but riding is too much fun to stop. Quote
