If you were to use Quaker State 10W-30 oil in the tranny could that cause the clutch to slip under WOT?? It has a small leak and the person that I bought it off of said that's what he used whenver it got low. I've talked to other people and a few recommend 80w oil...???

Some common motor oils (most) have friction modifiers to meet EPA standards and can cause a wet clutch to slip. Using lubricants that are made for a wet clutch will give you better results. Some use ATF, others use gear lube, I use Mobil One MX4T which is a normal synthetic motoroil but is made for a wet clutch.

to answer your quistion... Yes. I have has trouble in the past with clutches slipping using motor oil and when I got my new shee I tried using valvoline with my first oil change and it started slipping after that. I got some bel ray 75 wt gear oil and have had no problems since. and I have done several modifications since then and have been on the same clutch for about 6 months of riding nearly every day...

Gear oil and motor oil are weighed differetly. I believe wheatchex posted a chart a couple years ago that showed 80/90 gear oil was close to that of 10w30. I'll have to look around.

But yes, bad oil or the wrong oil can cause some troble. The advice of getting something for wet cluctch is right on.
