rebelbanshee2 Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 thats a vertical mill not a drill press! Quote
DirtRider Posted June 29, 2004 Author Report Posted June 29, 2004 huh. i always called it a drill press. Quote
boonman Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Indeed that is a vertical mill. And if you are calling/ have always caled it a drill press, I don't think you should be fashioning up any jigs or fixturing to be holding your head for any machine work. Things could go south on your motor in a hurry if you were, to "error" on it. I have to dig up my digital camera, but I posted some pics on here awhile back of my jig and a head on the grinder. Oh shizzle, I just remembered my man B370 has me a page on his site. Click HERE to peeps it out. You really need to be caref8ul when modding anything on your engine...... otherwise, or When the thing grenades..... Quote
DirtRider Posted June 29, 2004 Author Report Posted June 29, 2004 well i think i can do it but wasnt sure how to hold it down flat. i guess ill just have to see. shouyld be fun. im going for .02 i will also be advancing my timing on this beast too. Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 boonman why do you do it on a surface grinder? Wouldnt using a face mill give you a good enough finish and be much faster? Or do you surface grind so it is more accurate? Quote
boonman Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 I am a perfectionist!!!! I don't like fly cutting. You see, I always tram the head whenever I get on any mill in the shop. We have flunkies that I can't trust in the shop that can't run a mill for shit!!!! The grinder I can set up in a few seconds, and the finish is unparalleled!!! Ask anyone who has had their head done by me. Perfct, every time. Quote
DirtRider Posted July 4, 2004 Author Report Posted July 4, 2004 i have been taking the bike apart this weekend and straitend out the rear frame. took forever too. i just took the head off and the timing plate for some modifications. first off the guy i bought the bike from said there was wiseco pistons in there. i dont have a micrometer with me so i dont even know the bore. i took some picts i will post on tuesday(this computer dont have the software). they look good but it dont say wiseco on them. it has some numbers though "C00E4". he said it had "a" wiseco piston on the left side. but they are the same pistons for sure. ill get pictures as soon as i can to show ya. i really dont care if there stock pistons. actually i would rather be on the stock bore. the compression was 125 @ 500 ft. with stock everthing else. also does boring the cylinders change the compression? about the head, how do you know if it has been shaved already? its off a 99 and the gasket looked like it was bran new. just came right off with out a problem and ill be reusing it. cought 3 small mouth this weekend. 4 lb test line, feels like you really got something. LOL im heading out fishing now. happy reunion, gonna watch some more fireworks tonight. Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted July 5, 2004 Report Posted July 5, 2004 i donthave a micrometer with me so i dont even know the bore its off a 99 and the gasket looked like it was bran new. just came right off with out a problem and ill be reusing it. the bore size is on top of the piston, and DONT reuze the gasket!! unless you like the myriad or troubles a bad head gasket brings Quote
