Anyone from around Springdale?

Doesn't look to far from little sahara...

Reason I ask, I may have found a job. Wanted to know what kind of riding is around that area? Looks like the UofA maybe a good place to party :)

Hi Watz:

I used to live just South of Branson and frequent the Fayetteville metro area (which - to me - includes Springdale, Bentonville, and Bella Vista). You will be right between Little Sahara to the West, Deepwater to the North and Chadwick to the North/East. All will be about 100 mile trips. The most dificult will be Chadwick cause it's hard to go due East from NW Arkansas. The roads spend as much time going North and South as they do East and - Yes - back West but eventually you'll get there... :-)

I did some graduate work at U of A in Fayetteville. I can't really speak about the partying though. I worked my way through school. However, I will never forget the Razorback spirit. People line up for miles before a football and basketball game (new campus stadium in 1995 I think - Bud Walton Arena?).

You already know about Little S.

Deepwater is a Federal area and as such is free to ride. It is not real beaten down yet but it will be sooner or later. From Springdale you'll want to aim North up through Joplin to Truman Lake. You turn someplace to get on 13. I think Harrisonville. Deepwater is about a mile from 13 just south of Clinton. There are not many rules here. You can do the no helmet thing if you want even.

Chadwick is just south and a tad East of Springfield, Missouri. The quickest way for you probably will be to go to Joplin and catch 44 then down to Ozark. The rest is like two turns on a state lettered highway toward Forsythe/Branson. It is real remote - right in the middle of the Mark Twain National Forest. Some areas are off limits due to overuse and it is the most expensive in the area (also due to overuse). The cost is $5 per ATV/day.

I don't know of any places in the area that check for Missouri state stickers but the rule books say they should - so they could at any time. You are supposed to have them in all state and federal parks. Noise limits in Missouri are 95 db and I have never heard of anyone getting checked. I don't think they have the equipment.

Best of luck. It's a haul for me from Saint Louis but I usually get to Deepwater a half-dozen times or so per year. It is my favorite spot. Chadwick is real tight in the trails but the fireroads are fast.

I don't know anything down toward Ft. Smith way. Since they put the new highway to I-40 in the real estate has gotten valuable. Sorry about that.

Regards,

Bill

I live in siloam springs it about 25 miles west of springdale on 412, there used to be a good riding spot in the weddington WMA, but they closed it down this summer to off road vehicles. never been to deepwater or chadwick, I usually head to little sahara several times a year its about a 4 1/2 hour drive from here. Appalacia bay(sp) is just west of tulsa its a pretty good riding spot. UofA has some killer partys if you know where there at or know somebody.
