kjh Posted November 15, 2012 Report Posted November 15, 2012 Ok I seem to be having some banshee blues here. Trying to leave for a trip tomorrow, was making some clutch spring changes tipped my bike on it side and oil poored out the seal behind the front sprocket. Don't think I can find the parts in time, don't even know what i need at this point. Can I ride like this or should I leave it behind? Top end is new, I don't want to damage anything. Quote
So Cal Suspension Posted November 15, 2012 Report Posted November 15, 2012 Just refill the trans and ride... there is a vent back there that is supposed to have a tube on it. Quote
shakar Posted November 15, 2012 Report Posted November 15, 2012 take a peek ..see if its the sprocket seal or the vent line ,imo id rather by a 5 dolla seal then a posible complete rebuild. ,goodluck Quote
Paulie B Posted November 15, 2012 Report Posted November 15, 2012 Theres no fear of hurting your top-end. You could prematurely wear out your trans gears and clutch if it goes dry. Mine leaked there on my last trip out. Just keep an eye on it. Quote
AKheathen Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 forst thing, cheack that the bearing did not take the seal out. normally, a worn seal will seap the oil out, not pour it out. it is possible that a change in type of oil some hours back can make a seal crack, but it is just possible, not probable. slack the chain and pry on the sprocket. the bearing there is what would take it out. if that is what you find, also check the swing-arm pivot bearings, and sprocket hub, so it doesn't happen again, if the bearing is fine, keep it full of oil and order parts, so you can ride now and change beafore the next ride Quote
