Ive been searching around and havent been able to find the specs for the play in the rod at the crank, can anyone help me out and maybe explain which movment i should be checking for, side to side or up and down and how much, thanks!

zero up and down and minimal side to side.

thanks for quick response. my left rod is moving about 1/8 of an inch back and forth from center. right rod a hair tighter almost unnoticeable difference. i am measuring this at top of the rod, it is a bit tighter at bottem but can't get in to really measure exactly. could this looseness cause piston damage? also if you happen to know, about how much it should cost to get stock bottom end redone please let me know. thanks

This is how I check my rod bearings. This works for both the upper and lower.

Pull your rod all the way to TDC.

Wack it with the palm of your hand. If you hear a 'tink' then it's time for a rebuild.
