My son has a PS3 that stopped working. We bought a new one over the weekend and want to transfer the data from one machine to the other. Has anyone done this? Is it hard to do? I downloaded something from the playstation site and really looks like a pain in the arse.

Thanks

I believe since the one machine isn't working, you're going to have to remove the hard drive and install it as a secondary on a PC and copy the data, switch HD's, then paste it into the second hard drive. There might be a downloadable utility to help do it, but I think it's going to physically involve removing the hard drives. If both machines worked and turned on, you could use the method that glamis321 posted, but you're working with a single working one.

Usually when PS3s take a shit its the blueray drive that gos bad which is fairly easy to replace and not expensive, does it show a yellow light when it turns on? that could be the yellow light of death, kinda like xboxs red light, just something to look into.
