Buckwheat Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 We are in the process of installing R2's on our Banshee. It appears the air box will need to go, but maybe not? I am seeking advice / input from those who are running R2's on which way to go here. Do we need to eliminate the airbox, and if so, which air filter(s) work best without the airbox? Also, what is the best tool to use when trimming the plastics? Thanks, Wheat Quote
andrew3160 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 You can buy a K&N pod filter kit from any if the sponsors which will eliminate the use if the air box by the filter clamping directly onto the carb. If you ride through water or muddy areas, you might want to consider modifying you air box to assist keeping water out instead of using the pods. As for trimming your plastics, I use a hand held jig saw or a grinder sometimes and then sand the edge smooth and hit it with a flame to gloss the edge. I have heard people on here just using a soldering gun to do it all in one step, but have never tried it. Quote
jsn210 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 I used a utility knife to cut my plastic Quote
Buckwheat Posted December 29, 2011 Author Report Posted December 29, 2011 The pipes do clear the box, but are very close. I was concerned with them melting the box. Wheat Quote
sheerider11 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Where do you normally ride? That will determine if the box should go or not. Quote

Wheat If you want to keep the box and are worried about it melting, go buy some heat wrap and wrap that section of the exhaust. You can buy it at most auto parts stores. Problem solved! Quote
Buckwheat Posted December 30, 2011 Author Report Posted December 30, 2011 I would like to keep the box so I guess I'll look into the heat wrap stuff. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the help. Wheat Quote
