Ok here it goes, i'm starting to get alittle more serious with 300ft sand drags. Been using using my hill tires and gearing but now have struts and a bar, gearing and tire for the hill are 17-41 with 22-11-8 72ro 12 haulers.

Here's my set-up:

Stock frame lightened

+2 forward arms

+14 swinger

bar and struts

82ro staggered 14 rippers

LC Performance 12 mill 552 on meth

2-5 override

That's a lot of tire, but then again, that's a long swingarm. Maybe 15/43 or 44 to start with. I'd gear that motor to run 83-86 mph, then fine tune it from there until you get the quickest e.t. My gearing suggestion is based on 9500 peak rpm.

The track i"m going to this weekend is really loose, thats why the 14 rippers. I put 16-43 on it, you think thats too much? Should i put the 15 on or give the 16 a shot?

Try the 16, and if it bogs. go to the 15. 16/43 with 82 r/o tires is a lot of gear, but on a loose track, sometimes you need more I think. I always start gearing based on mph @ what I think my peak hp rpm should be in 5th gear, then look at mph and 60 ft and how it reacts to slight gear changes (1 tooth at a time on the back). Every track can be different, even the same track gets different as the day goes by. If I'm ever at a track without a 60 ft and or/mph I'm lost tuning my tires/gearing/clutch, etc. Total e.t. doesn't tell me how I got there. Getting that right is more important than getting the motor tuned perfectly, imo.
