dru619 Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 Hey peoples i'm new to this forum wanted so say what up to all my BANSHEE LOVERS!!! I have a 97 banshee and decided to finally do a rebuild however alot of my buddies and on forums go all out on rebuilds like, crazy pistons, cooling head, carbs .......etc and the list goes on. One of my buddies had his bored over twice and always having to spend all kinds of cash to later find out something else goes wrong. So that's why i guess i decided to rebuild mines to stock top and bottom new crank thats it and since I aint gonna lie don't do my own work so I took her to a shop and they quoted me $850!!!! for labor and re-bore is that a good price?? I'm not much a racer or do crazy 20ft jumps but i do ride hard and love my powerband i've spanked 660's and other shees that were waaaay modded guess depends on the rider, and all i have are pipes go figure.... So let me know fellas what you think of me just doing her all up stock and lubricated Quote
So Cal Suspension Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 I'm not much a racer or do crazy 20ft jumps Some people around here thing 20ft jumps makes you a "Pro FMX rider"... Just ask them. I'm sure there's 1400 threads that they've started around here proving how badass they are. Anyways, as far as going back to stock, that is all personal preference. If you were happy with the way the bike was performing before, than I say just keep it stock. Are you replacing the crank because it NEEDS to be replaced? or just because that's what the shop told you? Prices for repairs are going to vary by region, but I would strongly suggest sending your motor to one of our site sponsors. They all specialize in Banshee motors, and I can almost guarantee they will be cheaper than a dealership. You will get a proven product, and the best customer service anywhere. I see you are in San Diego. Call Kevin Herr from Herr Juggs racing. He is in Encinitas, I believe, and has an extremely fast turn around time, and does incredible work. So Cal Suspension Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 I was just reading Kevin's site, and it looks like he offers a rebuild for only $300, with a port job. Get a dune port from him, and the rebuild, and it looks like it'd only be $600 bucks... I hope I'm reading that right. Quote

I would seriously consider contacting Kevin before you commit to that $850. I think you could get a straight rebuild with a crank done for $450-500 easily... Quote

Nice how much did u spend? so you did have to send your motor out? how long was the turn around. Quote
dirtydownunder Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 i cant remember how much it was, pretty sure it was around 1k for everything, including shipping. I had hjr find me some cylinders, port them and send them back to me with the pistons and rebuild kit. so it will be around $250 less for you. if your still using a stock head, thats another $60 off ( as you dont need cool head domes) message Kevin at HJR, he will help you out. HJR is dam fast, and once he has your stuff, youll have it back within 2 weeks. Quote

There's some TERRIBLE shops down in the south bay area... You made sure to stamp your cylinders and bottom end with a unique number somewhere before you dropped them off right? I'd be willing to bet that you will NOT get your original parts back... Quote
dru619 Posted May 30, 2011 Author Report Posted May 30, 2011 The shop my girl took it to is called PBP in national city, before i signed up for this forum $850 was actually the best deal i was holding off to pay $850 after getting info from you but my girl wanted to surprise me so her and her friend took it to PBP start the rebuild i did mark everything with my initials thou and will be ready this FRI. Something is wrong that my girl isn't telling me i"ll find out tomorrow. so where do you ride at up by your area? besides Glamis or Superstition Quote
