frikkiefreeflow Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Hi Guys. 1) Can anyone please tell me what the advantages/disadvantages of running Methanol or Alcohol are compared to normal pump gas? 2) Are alky carbs already set up for use with methanol or not? Quote
dirtydownunder Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 same thing bud ! meth is alc meth/alc is way less volatile than pump fuel, so you can run alot more timing and compression than pump fuel, the trade off is that you need double the amount of meth than you do fuel, hence why meth carbs have massive jets. with meth vehicles you also have to purge the engine, (run race gas or pump gas , through the engine before letting it sit after use) Quote
Hilarious Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Hi Guys. 1) Can anyone please tell me what the advantages/disadvantages of running Methanol or Alcohol are compared to normal pump gas? 2) Are alky carbs already set up for use with methanol or not? methanol is a "refined" alcohol, unlike ethanol. it makes less btu's than gasoline, burns longer. i dont think there are any disadvantages to using methanol other than the consumption and being harder to start in the cold. its cheaper than race fuel and it makes more torque. methanol is corrosive to aluminum and it attracts moisture, thats why you have to purge with gasoline. your internals will rust and corrode. also keep in a sealed container. your carburetors will have to be set up for the extra amount of fuel that is required. and the stuff is just plain awesome. lol Quote
camatv Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 alky is very adictive.. after having 4 bikes on alky and then buying a nother bike for trails i used about 10 gallons of 110 and at 9 bucks a gallon vs the 3 bucks for alky didnt take long for me to ever switch the "trail" bike over to alky i dont know very many people that after running the good stuff wishes to go back to gas..
