banshee no powerband please help!

hey guys, i just changed my pipes from fmf gold eries to toomey t'5s. im running 30 pilot jets and 290 mains with K&n filter and the lid off. i cn't get into the powerband, it really lacks power and it smokes alot out of both exhaust, it seems like its running rich because i rode it with the filter off and it ran a little stronger. im at sea level i should be able to run with this setup please help me i wana get this right carbs are clean.

what color are the plugs?

but if it runs better without the filters, i would suggest running a little leaner.

 

 

 

 

i didnt get to run it long but the plugs started to get dark brown and a little wet, i tried the stock pilot jet and it wouldnt even idle so im thinking i can go leaner onthe main jet, toomey recomends 280 but im wondering if 290 to 280 would make enough of a difference or do i need 270's, what do you think, thanks for you help!!
