rear skidplate

Hi, I am new to the banshee world. I bought a 2001 banshee last year. The rear skid plate is pretty beat up from the PO. I replaced the chain guide that hangs from the swing arm( it was missing), but the skidplate is beat up enough that it wont fit with the chain guide on. I bought it for riding in the sand dunes only it will never see dirt. Do I really need to run the rear skidplate?

I ride sand only and haven't had a skid plate for years now with no problem.
