adamsj13 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Hi All, Just bought a 99 Banshee with a 4mm motor, t5 pipes, air box eleminator and was Dynoed at 86 hp. I checked the compression and it is 137 psi in one and 140psi in the other. What fuel should I use? He used racing fuel with redline racing oil. Can I run 91 octane pump gas? Also I wanted to change out the fluids, what gearcase oil and coolant should I use. Is one brand better than another? Thanks all in advance. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go farward Quote

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go farward Congrats on the banshee purchase! With 140 you should have no problem running 91, I think cut off is like 165-170. Here is a good topic to read on compression and race fuel: http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=116369 On the gear oil I just use cheap ATF type F, and on the coolant just normal 50/50 coolant. I will probably change to engine ice coolant next summer. Everyone will have a different preference on gear oil, coolant, oil...etc. Quote
adamsj13 Posted October 11, 2010 Author Report Posted October 11, 2010 i would run 93/94 octane at least. but there is more to what octane rating you should use than just static compression. All i have seen here in CA is 91 Octane. I'm close to sea level and will be running mainly at sea level. When I took the compression test, I had both plugs out, put in the tester on one side first then again on the other side. When I kicked it over I had the throttle wide open. I kicked it over about 10 times on each side. Is that enough? I know when I took other bikes to the shop, they used a dyno to do the compression test by spinning the back wheels. It read more that what mine tester told me, by alot. This was on a 250r. It showed on mine 210 psi and at the shop when they did it showed 340 psi. Quote
