I hope this is the right area, I was wondering if anyone has used the Trail Tech SCMR16 HID Spot Beam Helmet Light with battery? i don't want to do the battery conversion so this is my next option.

I wanna know if they light up pretty good and worth buying? :confused:

I sell the vision x led helmet lights. They have two battery packs to choose from. One that runs for about 2 hours, and another one that runs about 6 hours. I keep the battery in my kidney belt. Cool thing about vision x solstice lights is that you can hook the housings together. So you can run 1,2,3,etc.........on your helmet.

that is a sweet setup. is there a inline switch? how does the single vision x compare to the SCMR16 HID? what is the price on the setup with the bigger battery?

 

is it bright like the one in the video?

the mr16's are badasss. im getting a helmet kit but gonna run it on the bike and mount the battery pack under the plastic.

 

i only need them for a couple of hrs, so ill just mount them on my bars and roll. i dont want to do a battery conversion either.

I have the trail tech lights on my raptor. They are bright. But not worth the money now that you can buy and HID kit for the stock placement for around 30-40 shipped. Just wish I could put some HID's on my banshee. Also I have had many many probs with the trail techs. I at least send them in once again because the ballast go out. I think I have Generation #5 or 6 now.banghead But have heard good stuff on the helmet lights. I have the VisonX light bar on my rhino which turns night into DAY.

The mr16 is 1850 Lumens, as compared to the visionx's 800 lumens. The MR16 is more than twice as bright as the VisionX LED.

Correction, the vision x Solstice 2" lights are 900 lumens. They draw less power than the hid's, they dont have a start up spike like an hid, they dont have the ballast ignition problems hid's have (multiple start up attempts to get the lights to turn on), they run a lot cooler, they are more impact resistant, more waterproof, and have about a 10x longer bulb life than an hid, and you can also interlock the housings to add additional lights.

 

There is a reason why they highlight lighting pics/videos in brush, and its because the lights illuminate close up foliage the best. You can have 1850 lumens, but is worthless if the reflector doesn't focus it properly. I set up my lighting components for distance so I can ride across the sand at night as fast as I want, and so I can see down to the bottom of hills.

 

I can run an HID if I want, but I choose not to because LED is where its at.

It says 900 on the right side, but 800 in the text... kinda scary that they're not sure exactly how bright they are... :shrugani:

Also, the mr16 reflector is one of the most efficient reflectors made, for a halogen or HID purpose, which is one of the main reasons it is so widely used. By efficient, I don't mean most economical to be used on an ATV, don't confuse the two. Efficient means there is less "spill" outside the spectrum it was designed for. Here is one of the the LED's few flaws, the LED's have a very wide viewing angle, without the assistance of lenses and reflectors. In order for an LED to be able to "throw" it's like, it has to be run through lenses. The absolute BEST lenses on the market, only transmit 93% of the LED's full light. So say the LED is rated at 900 lumens, you're really only getting 837 lumens out of the lens. MR16's don't have a lens, therefore you're getting 100% of the light transmitted.

 

I am impartial when it comes to LED's vs HID. But the fact of the matter is, watt per lumen, is almost identical on HID's vs LED's. I just ordered a 22" LED light bar for my buggy that is 10,900 lumens. Even with 10,900 lumens, it alone would not be anywhere near enough light for safe driving. I Will also have to fit them with HID's, because the LED lightbars don't throw the light far enough. I still need a few pencil beam HID's to get the light the distance it needs to go...

The lights project out plenty far, I can ride 6th gear tapped at night, heres my solstice 2" pod setup vs a stock bike revved up.

It would be so great to have that kind of light on the bike, but i'll just have to go the helmet light route to keep the sleek look. Besides all the 4-stroke off's I ride at the dunes with have HID's, i'll just have to get in the middle of the group at night.

Impartial? Yes I am... but PARTIAL, No I am not. Just sayin'...

 

You must have missed the part where I said I'm running BOTH LED's and HID's on my sand car... Call me blind, but I know the 22" lightbar on the top of my cousin's Teryx doesn't throw the light far enough to be safe at high speeds in a buggy. Perhaps on an ATV is a different story, but you're also not throwing around a 2500lb long travel car. Some of the 42" LED bars put out enough light to be suitable, and safe, but 90% of people that run LED lights on their long travel cars, run HID's in conjunction with the LED bars.

 

Facts are facts, guys... sorry to piss on anyone's parade, but 800-900 Lumens vs 1850 Lumens...? :confused:

 

The LED lightbars are AWESOME, hence the reason I just bought one for the single seater... I'm not pissing on LED's by any means. The man simply asked how they compare. I quoted the the stated lumen output from VisionX's website, and Trail Tech's website. I have never run any type of MR16 lamp on anything I have ever owned, nor will I ever. They simply don't throw the light far enough for my liking. My alumicraft car has 5 8" 100 watt baja designs HID's on the roof (3 pencil beam in the middle, two floods on the outside), and two 6" Baja designs halogen floods on the a-pillars. The single seater is getting the 22" LED bar on the roof (the whole roof width is only 22.5"), and two Baja Designs 6" 100w pencil HID's on the a-pillars. Maybe some halogen floods up front to light up right in front of me.

 

All I'm saying is after riding in dozens of long travel cars with LED lightbars, I wouldn't ever run with just the 22" lightbar. It's simply not safe at 100+ MPH... I want to be able to throw light 100-200 yards. The LED's don't do that very well yet. I'm sure in the near future they will, and when that time comes, I'm sure I'll be buying a few of them to replace the HID's. But that time is not now... I really wish it was, because they look really clean, and look AWESOME at night. :shrugani:

The top bar vs the bottom bar in even the same difference is going to be a worl of difference because of the projectors on the top bar. They are designed so each bulb is a spot, where the lower bar is a flood. Both LED light bars, both the same size, but one designed for long range light, the other designed to illuminate everything up close. They make both bars in up to 52" of length.

I'm replying from my phone, but I just talked to my cousin and I was wrong, he has the 12" patriot bar. I don't know what that is yet, I haven't gotten a chance to look it up... but he told me to tell everyone it's for sale...
