crazycanuck Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Hey guys i just got back from riding my 421 with 1-5 override. Out of the blue its shifting HARD under load going IN and OUT of second gear. shifts like butter in 3,4,5..... did I damage second gear??? or bend a shift fork??... Im going to rip into it this weekend. Just wanted to see if anyone had any predictions....... Quote
methyman Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 You might have bent the shaft which I have seen often with allot of power, it might be a bent fork also. Good luck and let us know what happened. Quote
AKheathen Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 yah, if it's sudden, i'd suspect the fork/shaft, but gearshaft wear can make it hard.... if you find nothing, pull the gear off and check it out. Quote

AKheathen Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 so if it's the shaft, do u think it was because of the way i was riding it?? maybe. what were you doing before it happened? allot of pressure on the shifter? backloading? Quote
crazycanuck Posted September 10, 2010 Author Report Posted September 10, 2010 maybe. what were you doing before it happened? allot of pressure on the shifter? backloading? well its my first override so i was bein super careful, I dont thnk it got back loaded. when i was getting the gearing figured out, I dropped the clutch a few times and it grabbed a ton of traction and bogged bag off the line.... causing me to pull in the clutch. donno if that would do anything or not Quote
methyman Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 I seen shaft twist just slightly that it will make it hard to go into that gear. You could barely tell it was twisted until I took the gears off the shaft and it was bad. Sometimes the chain being to tight cab cause the shaft to twist. I run a bearing support on my motors with over rides just in case so there is no side load from the chain. Quote
