SpeedRacer88 Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 i got a older stator everything works i just cant figure out how to wire in the lights the stator has two yellow and one black wire and my harness only has one yellow and one black wire i've tried ever combo there is but no lights Quote
AKheathen Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 that's not stock......check the black for continuity with the engine, and ohm each yellow to black Quote
bansheesandrider Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 Sounds like an aftermarket high output stator with 2 lighting outputs which requires 2 voltage regulators. You should be able to hook up 1 yellow and the black wire and make your lights work, then tape off the other yellow so it can't short. If neither yellow makes the lights work then it sounds like a bad stator. Quote
AKheathen Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 it could also be a floated stock style. Quote
bansheesandrider Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 it could also be a floated stock style. Absolutely, I did not think about that. Are the 2 yellow wires the same type of wire or does it look like one of the yellows was added by someone? Quote
SpeedRacer88 Posted August 14, 2010 Author Report Posted August 14, 2010 no its a ricky stator ther is no continuity between either yellow with black but i have continuity between the two yellows Quote
AKheathen Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 does the black have continuity with ground? you are gonna have to pull it and see where you can get continuity. if it's floated for 12v, you will see an unused solder connection on the basket, and one of the yellow wires will be connected where the winding goes there, in stead. if you don't care to do a dc setup on your bike (requires a rectifier) then that can be reconnected to that unused pole. if it's not floated, and it's a high output, it will have 18poles, instead of 12, like the stock style. you can see if there is a connection problem at the ground. actually, i just remembered that it doesn't use a pole, but an eyelet that screws into the stator frame. i just don't wann retype it all, lol. oh, and the black wire connects to the wire holder on the back of the timing plate, so you must have that screwed in for it to work.
