itsTyler Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 I have blue plastics that i want to paint black with a gloss finish. Ive been searching like crazy and its hard to find good advice on how to paint plastics. Im really looking for somebody that has done it with a gun not a can of spray paint. Whats the best primer/paint to use for plastics? And what grit do you sand them with before priming? Ive seen people talking about using car paint and adding flex agents to keep it from cracking. This sounds like a pretty good way to go but i really need advice from somebody who has done it and not had problems with it cracking or chipping. I have a friend that use to paint motorcycles so he has all the equipment needed. Im not as concerned with the price of materials as how well they will hold up. If you have painted your plastics please tell me how you did it and if it help up, and pics are great . Quote
toytech Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 (edited) I'm in the procese of paintin mine right now, our local paint store steered my toward the buldog plastic primer, and base coat clear coat automotive urathane with flex agent, he says it will not crack or peal off. I'm using same basic steps as Zilla. I will post pics when done. oh I forgot to say welcome to bhq Edited August 13, 2010 by toytech Quote
itsTyler Posted August 13, 2010 Author Report Posted August 13, 2010 Thanks guys any info helps. Im surprised how hard it is to find good info on the net for painting plastic. Ill get some pics posted as soon as i get started. Im probably going to strip the shee down in a week or so and get started. Painting the plastics is just the tip of the iceberg. Im also powder coating the frame and a arms red, getting a plus 6 swinger, engine over haul with new carbs, reeds, intake manifold, crank, high compression pistons......... the list goes on and on and on This is my first atv build but i can already tell it wont be the last. Im actually already thinking about buying another banshee, found one really cheap on cl but somebody bored it wrong and the engine is probably junk. Quote
