leaking shifter

Recommended Posts

If your 100% sure its the shift shaft seal leaking and not the sprocket seal, the 2 lil plugs or the shift drum plate then yes, your can change it without splitting. Sometimes the sprocket seal if leaking down can make it look like the shift shaft seal is whats leaking. I would clean all the oil out of there first and make sure you know whats leaking.

Just flip the bike on it's side and prop it up. Take the shifter off. Then take two small screws and screw them into the seal across from each other. Then get 2 vise grips and pull it out easily.

Then to put the new one in, lube the seal up on the inside and out, then grab a deep socket the exact same size as the seal and lightly tap it into place with a rubber mallet until fully seated.

Done.

If its the drive sprocket seal, then you will need to split it. If its the drum cover just replace the o-ring.
