crustydemon Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Took the old slut for a spin tonight (4 mill) and something isnt right. It just wont rev out like it should. From about quarter to half its not too bad, just not snappy like it should be and starting at 3/4 it just seems restricted to wot. The motor isnt running out of power of falling flat its just like the power hasnt really come on fully and then no over rev at all, I held wot for a long time in 6th and she'll just hold her max rpm and cruise but I can tell its not winding out near enough.I'm shifting through the gears really quick because its reaching its max rpm so fast, seriously like brap brap brap brap brap braaaap and your there, maxed out but not winding out. Twice it kicked in good for just a couple seconds, once in 4th about 3/4 throttle it pulled the front up and I had to back out of it and once in 5th when I shifted from 4th and pinned it she come up a foot or so other than that, not too good. I'm fairly confident that I have my carb setup right, Im at +4 on the plate and have tried both the stock curve and curve 3 on the dyna with little noticeable difference if any. I'm to the point where I honestly think I need more pipe, I think the pc's are holding it back. What do you think? And then as it got darker out I noticed my lights going on and off, not a flicker really just like off on off on. Could be a loose connection but I doubt it. Quote
AKheathen Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 take a look at your flywheel/stator......it might be a bit rusty in there or something......it kinda sounds like spark related, if you're sure on the jetting, plus the accompanying light issue also points there, or to grounds/wiring. the pro circuits should be pulling hard from down low, but they are not light switch, so it's hard to guestimate the feel and ovverrev, especially if you have been ridding another bike.....and i doubt a 4mill is maxing them out. crustydemon Posted March 29, 2010 Author Report Posted March 29, 2010 It had been a few years since I rode it (stock with the pc's) but I remember it pulled real good up top. I just built the stroker last year and never did get it dialed in, this was the first time I have had it out this year. I have been riding the other one though and that is like flipping on a light switch just at low to mid revs then it peters out too but thats just how those pipes are. On the 4 mill the exhaust note just sounds too low and dull compared to what it should. I'll check the electrical today, I put that big stator on and maybe something is wrong with it. I shouldnt have said my carbs are set, they might not be. I thought I had them good when I put it away last fall and then jetted by temp the other day and ended up with 158 mains, cel middle, 60 degrees yesterday at 1400 ft, running straight 110 because I didnt have any regular gas to blend with and cant get a good plug reading( it always looks like its lean but if it was I would have melted it down yesterday) Quote
AKheathen Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 ah, i see. i would change that fuel to what you should be running first. i have done that, too, and mine didn't like the extra 5 oct. levels. ran fine, just with noticeably less power. then make sure your jetting is good. just 1 setting off usually just decreases power, but runs ok, and oct levels can change the jetting a bit, too. what kind of "big" stator is in there? crustydemon Posted March 29, 2010 Author Report Posted March 29, 2010 Its a 250 watt Moose stator. Do you still run 100 LL . How do you like it , burns dry doesnt it? Quote
AKheathen Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 i still run it, but mix 50/50 with 90 oct. and 40:1 and it's plenty lubed, with no build-up at all. same plugs for a year and a half. i don't see why some think 100 LOW LEAD isn't that good. plenty of us run it constantly. besides that, it's regulated to much higher standards than any race fuel you can buy, since bad gas in a plane can lead to death, loll. i'm thinking about throwing the 18's in there and running it strait for a bit, and hope the crank holds up for a few rides, haha Quote
