Finally starting to work on it again, a few questions...

You guys have convinced me to keep working on building my Banshee. I'm still in the process of doing a complete frame-up resto build of my '97 and I have some questions.

 

1. Where is the cheapest place online to get factory Yamaha parts?

 

I use MRCycles.com for my R1 parts as they usually beat everyone else by about 10%+ on their prices but on Banshee parts as of right now they are the highest I've found. That's a real buzzkill because I've got about 150 part numbers to order and it's a major PITA to enter all of those numbers only to find out prices are higher than expected.

 

2. Will paint on the frame be ok to ride with instead of powder coating?

 

I know powder coating is the ultimate and I fully intended on doing it but I've lost my job and need to get this thing running in case I have to sell it. I want to at least be able to ride it first though. It has 2 coats of PPG 9700 base black and 2 coats of PPG DCU2021 clear over K36 primer. After that I decided I didn't like the gloss look because it was too hard to get to match so I scuffed everything and went over it with spray bomb semi flat Rust Tough black. It looks good but I want it to last as long as possible.

 

Thanks in advance to all of you for the help. This started out as a simple rebuild and has turned into a several thousand dollar performance restoration and without the support of everyone on this forum I'd have probably already sold it. But for now I keep searching and building...

well the best place to get stock oem parts is put what u need in the wanted section here. I no ive got lots of hardley used or not used at all parts layin around or in containers on the shelf. You can also check with us site sponsors and get some prices. I can get you a discount from RMATV and get you some great deals on all modquad parts and accessories. Shoot me a pm of some stuff you need. Ill see what I have or get you some prices on parts..

I dont know but if it was me and I had the frame all stripped down to nothing I would powder coat, because the application of powder coating provides a durable

finish that will not crack, chip, peel, corrode or fade, assuring a superior looking finish that will last for years

 

A rattlecan job will put a new finish on the frame and is cheap but will eventually get chipped fairly easily.

The cheapest place I know of is Apache Motorcycles in Pheonix, AZ, they used to be Yamaha Suzuki of Arizona, but they got bought out or renamed or bankruptcy or something. They were gone for awhile but are back now as Apache Motorcycles. Another place is Cheap Cycle Parts, they are within pennies of each other. I was trying to build a Banshee from a bare 97 frame also, when I lost my job last March, so it has slowed down considerably. No way will I part with the quads though. Good luck.
