Firemann32 Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 (edited) Hello all. I'm not really a newbie per-say since I have been buying parts and asking a lot of questions in the For Sale section but I finally bought my first RUNNING Banshee and I have another one that I initally purchased as a project that just needs a rebuild (well whole new top end) Here's my first question w/ backstory. I purchased a 2002 Banshee and it runs awesome, I means fires right up cold. The guy I purchased it from didn't really know much about the motor build as he got it as a partial trade for a boat and he road it a few times. He told me that he mixed his premix at 50:1 because with 32:1 it would foul plugs. I've heard of people running 50:1 and that's what I run in my lawn equipment but a Banshee isn't a weed eater. So I was thinking maybe 40:1, any thoughts? Second question. What kind of oil? In my jet ski's which are injected I just run the Super Tech stuff from Wal-Mart since it meets all the Yamaha specs. In my lawn equipment I run an oil called opti2 (link below). I have access to several containers of it below cost, what's your thoughts on using that oil? http://www.opti2-4.com/html/opti-2.html Third question, what's the max overbore on a pair of stock heads and how many hours can I expect to get out of a rebuild? 00sheerzr Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 i would only use quality oil, like amsoil dominator, or any klotz brand, if you skimp on the quality oil it will only hurt you in the long run, i run amsoil dominator at 40:1 Quote
kodie Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 40:1 will be fine I ran 38:1 and i used klotz benol great stuff and smelled awesome when it burnt. there are plenty of quality oils out there and just as many threads of whats the best so just search for it and you will find what you need. as for the bore the head is the top part of the motor where the plugs sit. and the cylinders/jugs are the next part below it. the juggs are what get bored out for new pistons not the head. and you can go all the way to 100 over before new sleeves but alot of people stop at 80 or 90 over just for reliability purposes.
