Driggs Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 So I did a complete rebuild (crank and top end but removed the trans completely) and have yet to start her up. Still need to attach pipes, carbs, and chain. My question is, should I be able to shift in all gears? I'm able to find first, neutral, second, third, and sometimes fourth but that’s it. I don’t remember how hard or easy it was shifting with the bike not running. Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 The wheels need to be turning to be able to bang all the gears. Put the rear on a lift in the air and get someone to turn the rear tires by hand. Then you bang the gears by hand and you will get into all the gears. Thats if you put it together right! Quote

MILO Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 +2 or you can turn the sprocket by hand and shift up and down as well. +3. if you have it together right you should be able to get through all the gears with things in motion. if not, you had better tear into it again before firing it up.
