Friend of a friend has a stroked Banshee. After a short time of running.... 10min.... the base of the plugs are glowing red... the metal hex part.... engine doesn't feel overly hot. Any ideas???? I've built lots of engine and nevere seen this happen b4. Maybe its normal??? if so why is this happening? Thanks A.

Might need some tuning there. I would be curious to know the entire engine setup, fuel, timing, and maybe inspect under the head. You may need to retard timing a bit as it sounds like your MCP is happening well before 20*ATDC which for increase head temps and decrease pipe temps. If you install and EGT, I would know right off. It would be an EXCELLENT idea for you to get some really good plug pics and send them to me. I have seen plubs glow before but usually not when the motor is dialed in correctly. That heat should have converted to kinetic energy and/or go out the pipe.

probably won't get the oppurtuninty {sp} to work on the tune of this at all. I suspect it is too rich, but they tell me it runs very hard and very clean. I haven't seen the plugs, and have no real idea of engine build specs.... neither does the owner. Supposedly a JP Racing engine. I just had never heard of such a thing, and couldn't imagine the engine running well with a condition like this. A.

There may be a few things that are going on but a rich condition will burn slower and a slower burn is not desirable because it will tend to transfer heat into the engine more than a fast burn. That being said, in a rich mixture, there is usually partial fuel that is not burned and helps to cool things. Hard to say without knowing more but I can tell you I have seen it on the dyno but that was a full load condition. Maybe once it burns down, we can get to the bottom of it.....

ROFLMAO!!!!! Burn down!!!!! my thoughts exactly. Even then I still probaly won't get a chance to diagnose the situation. With the plug that hot, it shouldn't be long. Thanks... A.

I'm not well versed in Banshee mtrs., but this is what I'm told:

410 stroker

15cc chambers @ 6000ft.

Paul Turner pipes W/ Fat Boy silencers

running straight race gas "no idea what rating or how fresh"

the story goes.... plugs will start glowing after a 3-5 min. idle.

not even being ridden. ????????????

Just taking a stab at it, the CR may be a bit high even at 6K ft. The 410 is an odd size unless it is a 7mm motor. Never the less, if the CR is as high as I am envisioning, things will have to be setup right. We have set up a few 18:1ish motors but they need special care and are not for drag racing!
