robert0762 Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Like the title says. I have a sound like a loose cassette tape coming from the clutch cover . It only does it when it gets warmed up. i don't hear it when I'm running it or revving it up but prob just cant hear over the motor. What is the first thing I should look for? Can someone describe what piston slap sounds like?? need help bad Edited May 15, 2009 by robert0762 Quote
boneyardbanshee. Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 You put new oil in right? You say you hear it while its not running. So you are pushing it then? In neutral, or clutch pulled in? I just had a problem with my oil leaking out the neutral switch cover. It was making all sorts of noises just under the clutch basket. I thought I really messed shit up but it turned out it just needed oil to lube stuff back up. If you had piston slap I would think you would hear it while running. Quote

boneyardbanshee. Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 ok then, get right down on the cylinder and give it a quick rev. If the sound rises and falls, I would suspect some play in the crank area. May be a bearing going out. Quote
robert0762 Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 sounds like it is coming from clutch cover Quote
boneyardbanshee. Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 If it is coming from the clutch cover but your clutch is still working I would suspect your lock washer for the clutch basket has let loose and the nut may be starting to work off. It will work off completely eventually and you will loose your clutch. You will just need to pull the cover and pressure plate and take a peek. Thats the only way to trouble shoot from there. Like I said before I had some strange noises from the same area but once the new oil got moved around and lubed everything back up it went away. MY problem was the shaft the clutch assembly goes on went dry and was making a squealing, rubbing sound, similar to a shitty cassette tape. They may not be your problem but the only way to tell is to take a closer look inside. I have had just about everything happen to my bike from time to time so I can help you get this figured out.
