Stock carb slides

I know this sounds stupid but can n e one tell me which way the slides go in on a stock carb. The taper on the bottom of the slide to the front or back.

taper should be to the back of the bike, or

 

when you remove your air lid, you look down into the carbs, you should see the tapers
