whitewonder66 Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 i need to split the case to replace a wrist pin do i need a case splitter or can i do it without one. also does it need to be precision aligned back together. pretty much can i do this myself? Quote
98_shee Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) You can do it your self the only special tool you will need is a flywheel puller. There is a couple clips that go around the bearings be sure to put them back in and all the bolts on top and bottom of your cases are numbered and you need to tighten them in order a little bit at a time, just keep going over them till they are tight, i normally go over them 3-4 times. If you don't have a clymers manual you should invest in one, it will walk you through everything. And welcome to the HQ!!!!  If you need any help or get stuck on something pm me and i will be glad to help you. Edited January 29, 2009 by 98_shee Quote
RUDEDAWG Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 You shouldn't have to split the cases to replace a wrist pin unless the rod is messed up too. Quote

Sounds like a rod bearing went out, it would be better to just replace the crank, after you buy the parts ship it to have it fixed and trued back up your gonna be out almost as much as a new crank. If you want a used one pm me i have one. The wrist pin the the pin that goes through the piston. Edited January 29, 2009 by 98_shee Quote
