im about to get back to the states from a deployment and i will be tearing into my buddys banshee with him. i need some input on what to set the carbs to. the bike has fmf fattys on it, torrs elimination, a fresh top end ( did it right before we left), and we will be advancing the timing +4. the heads are stock, the reeds are stock, and the gearing if i remeber right is +2 in the back. right before we left we noticed that one of the cylinders is back firing during hard exceleration right after you shift. so we are also going to clean out the carbs and rebuild them. this bike is in NC but i dont know the exact elavation. thanks for any help guys.

Backfiring is usually a sign of being lean. After cleaning the carbs, check for air leaks, and make sure the air mixture screws are adjusted properly, and the same, from carb to carb. You might have an air leak around one of the gaskets, or even a hole in the manifold.

i checked for air leaks around the reeds and the carb boots before we deployed. I did it by spraying carb cleaner around it and listening to the motor and it DID NOT rev up, tell me that there wasnt an air leak. now when we took the carbs apart to see what jets were in them the right carbs needle looked slightly bent. so when i get back ill be putting new needles in them and clean them very good and hopefully it will help it. anybody got some input on what mains, pilots, and clip position to start with. thanks guys

Mains 280-300, depending on elevation. Pilots 27.5, and the needle should have the clip on the middle notch. You will probably have to take it for a few test runs, to get the mains dialed in. Air screws 1.5-2.0 turns out, and make sure both carbs are adjusted the same.
