05.Banshee.SE Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 What EXACTLY does a coolhead and domes do? What about advancing the timing? I have a good idea about how everything works, but I want to know more the theory behind it all. I'm not asking how to install it, or what to expect for gains--I want to know in technical terms how it works as a system to increase performance. I know the basics...the head holds 70% more liquid, uses a "squish" zone or something, compression goes up, advancing the timing means the plug fires earlier or something like that? Quote
J-Madd Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 Sounds like the answer is in your post.. Compression increase puts the air fuel mixture in a smaller area for a stronger explosion (for lack of a better term). Timing advance ignites the charge even more before TDC to begin the combustion cycle at the optimal time to send the piston back down, hopefully resulting in increased accelleration. Oversimplied definitions, but I think it kind of explains it. Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted October 7, 2008 Author Report Posted October 7, 2008 Thank you sir. I figured that's how it was...but I couldn't get it into words. Quote
