How to measure ignition advance in mm?

Hi guys,

 

I am trying to find the static ignition advance in mm, on my banshee. I need to know this value to put into my programmable ignition software.

 

From what i understand, i need to measure the stroke from where the tab on the flywheel passes the ignition pickup, to TDC.

 

It is difficult determine where to start measuring from though, as the tab on the flywheel is roughly 15mm long, and the pickup is 5mm in diameter. there are no reference marks on either.

 

Using a dial guage, I started measuring the stroke from where the leading edge of the tab passes the centre of the ignition pick up.

 

is this correct?
