  1. Hey guys I need some advise on jetting my mains

    02 shee

Fresh build by Jeff at FAST

    Welded 4 mil crank

    65.5 mil wiseco slugs

    Dune port by the man

FAST/NOSS head with 23cc stroker domes

Dynatek CDI set on stock curve

    4* on timing plate

    T-5 pipes

Vforce 4 reeds and billet intake with internal crossover

    33mm keihin carbs

    K&n pods

    Pingel dual valve

Gutted fuel cap with open vent hose

    15-38 sprockets with 20" tires

45:1 amsoil dominator oil and 91 pump

    1500ft elevation

Ok my current jetting is 35 pilot cel needle in middle and 165 main

My issue is riding in town occasional wot is fine. out of town up to 45 mph is fine cruising part throttle just under powerband. Rolling into the throttle to wot from 45 to 50ish the pipes just start smoking white colored real bad and you get a oil on fire smell not just occasional 2 stroke smoke. Last summer I torched the pistons because I sucked a carb dry and it did the same thing, smoking like this on long pulls (could get it to pull past 65 before smoking though). I talked with Jeff last fall about jetting and did a ton of chops last fall and sent him pictures and he thought 165 mains were a bit much for me and questioned why my smoke rings did not go all the way around the porcelain. They are about 1.5mm high.

I have not chopped this week because I am thinking I'm severely lean. This week temps here have been high 80's and humid about 80%. I had my stock fuel valve (molded with 2 outlets) in last week when this started and I drained the tank and found some small debris partially blocking the screen maybe about 20%. I decided to put on the pingel and pull the head to verify I didn't do damage yet and all is good so far. I rode it tonite and it still smokes only from about half to wot throttle. I assembled the whole engine using a bit of Yamaha 3 bond on all gaskets and it passes the leak down test.

Do you think I need bigger mains? Also comparing to everyone else's jetting specs it seems I'm way under most comparable builds on pilots but a bit above on mains and Jeff thinks the mains were a bit big too. This is making me sick I'm going to burn it up again. I'm going to meet some buddies for the weekend and can work on it there but don't wanna wrench all weekend so can whoever so still up please help out before I leave for the weekend?? Thanks!

  2. 02 Shee

Fresh top end build byturns FAST

    33pwks curently 165 48 1 1/2 cgl on middle

Billet intake with machined crossover and vf4's

Noss head with 23cc stroker domes cut by FAST 150psi after 15-20 kicks

Br8es plugs at .024" stock coil moose ho stator and dynatek programmable cdi on stock curve 3 no timing on plate (0*)

65.5mm weiseco slugs fresh built by jeff with agressive dune/drag port

Freshly repacked toomey t5's per jeffs recs

About average of 45-55*f now 1500 elevation 250lb rider stock swinger 20" tires and 15/40 gearing

Now it idles good and seems good and stong in 1-3 but 4-6 gears on highway ( its licensed) seems to not pull as hard. Gunna try a plug chop real soon but do you guys think i should bump the mains richer or leaner...pulled plugs (i know notta real chop) and they had 1 mm ring at base so general use i think im ok but i think i may wanna go leaner a couple sizes compared to the searching i did last nite but im scarred to from all the top gear bog threads some say rich or leaner. Cant get ahold of jeff this morning yet...it doesnt sputter in top gears just feels like you let up on throttle some.

  3. Hey guys i was curious on how you get pods to fit right on the carb? My cylinders wont show till early next week so i cant get pics but i have stock cylinders a billet 1 peice intake and pwk33's and their almost too high and the pods hit the exhaust. I made some extensions and set em back about 4" previously but its alot hangin them back so far on the carb boots. Can a few of you post up pics of your pod setups please and maybe should i switch back to upp intakes that dont raise and set the carbs back so far?

  4. Ok guys its been a long time but I sent everything to FAST and he straightened the crank and ported the cases and now I've been waiting one month (since he sent back the crank and cases and said 2 weeks then and 2 months total) for him to finish. I'm waiting on stroker domes and a head, and my cylinders to be bored and ported out to mid top power band with t-5's. anyone know of another builder that does just as good of work? Jeff is just so busy I'm tired of waiting hell it's already 50*f out. I need this done in a week....I knew he was busy when I sent me down but he said he's cramming for 2 sand rides common up I can't believe everyone he's rushin done has been waiting since before July!

  5. Ill make sure to check the crank out when i split the cases to clean it out....if the bearings are fine i suppose it wont hurt to put new seals in huh.  the way it looks this crank hasnt been in there long so they should be good but ill check the bearings. what are some tips on assembly to keep this thing sealed? rtv everything both sides of gaskets and all or what? i had new gaskets and everything was properly torqued and sealed....these cant be that bad or no one would keep em on account of buring em up

  6. haha i hear that on the jetting. i have all the mods in the first post again:

porting (jeff will let me know what they think when they get a look at the jugs (hopefully wednesday)

    65mm wiseco pistons

    wiseco 4 mil crank

billet intake with 33mm pwk keihin carbs

dynatek cdi (no advance on crank) set on tune 1

    k&n pods

    paul turner high revs

amsoil 40:1 interceptor oil (know i mixed all tanks for sure)

stock head and .080 head gasket (sent head to jeff and gunna see if he can verify cc's and maybe bore it for the stroker to keep it stock looking)

    vforce 4 reeds

    br9es plugs

the carb i have a 45 pilots with 2 1/2 turns out on screw and cgl needle on middle clip (know this is good as plugs have always been on the richer side but not too far) and wot i have a 165 mains is this too lean on the mains? seems a little big almost or equal to others running somewhat similar builds im at 1500 -2000 elevation it hasnt been over 90 and 60% humidity here. the 165's were stock in these pwk's so maybe i need a little more but i dont think jetting would be it as the right side was still like perfect. ill post up some pix of my plugs i pulled the right was still brown and the left (side burned up) was pure white. pipe was all white inside as far as i could see.

i still have the rollover valve in so ill gut that right away as i have seen the left carb fuel line a lil low a couple random times (have a T from the stock petcock with the right carb going straight through and the left is T'ed off....is there a better way to split the lines or maybe time for a pingel? whats the limit of the stock valve 70 hp or so? i also have my wot plug chop so ill post them pix up too if ya guys care to take a look

thanks for all the help so far as i mentioned i already tore down post catastrophe so i didnt check the leak down but when i reassemble ill make sure to seal er tight again. also is the best way to clean the bottom end to split the cases or could i just flush the bottom with solvent or something (could use a suction gun to suck er all out? thanks again you guys' help rocks!

  7. Jugs are already sent to fast...i understand a small leak at part throttle will skew jetting and air fuel mixture but at wot there isnt hardly any vacuum behind the carb just flow so wot shouldnt make a difference and i shouldve been way lean at idle or a lean decel popping (highest vacuum) besides airleaks are most common when cold. At least all this is my experienve on new cars not powrrsports...im a car mechanic...just new to two strokes

  8. Ok guys first post so bear with me please. A month ago i bought a basket banshee (all tore down) had been partially parted out. Got it together two weeks ago and ran great. Looked ljke a fresh build with welded wiseco 4mil crank, wiseco 65mm pistons and unknown porting (but looks to be good and corrected for 4mil and had a FAST sticker) so hopefully good port job. Also i installed a paul turner high rev pipes, new keihin 33mm pwks (165m, 45p 2 1/2 turns, and the cgl needle on middle 1500ft) billet manifold, k&n pods, dynatek ign stock curves, no advance, br9es, vforce 4 reeds, amsoil interceptor 40:1. So been running great both carbs synced and starts and ran good. I plug chopped wot and had to lean the pilot some. Plugs look good still even maybe a tad rich. Locked it up wot on highway (im licensed) and the left side burned up. Plug and pipe are white. Right side both are nice and brown and piston looks awsome. I just pulled both bowls and found no debris in left or right. Since this has ran its always had a little more oil residue out left pipe not much just a little more than the right. Whole thing is tightly sealed as ive heard the stories and plugs always checked every other ride and been dark never white. A little before this i was drifting gravel roads in 4 th and it dogged a little and was puking badly burning smelled smoke out left side only (did it once before same side) i upshifted and babied it 1 mile and it gradually cleared up and ran great again (didnt check plug to see if stuck rich or lean). When it went i was halfway through the powerband in 6th so i doubt an airleak would affect it that bad as i was wot and it tested good before i pulled her down. Im thinking carb issue and am scared to put em back on. I bought em off ebay and heard the fake kiehins and these look legit and new. Please help!
