Looking for a preferably trail/mx ported set of jugs with pistons, ready to bolt on. Need something fast so will consider any type of port job.
Thanks!

So I'd like to go that way, but i'd much rather not change the crank or even open up the whole bottom end. I'm not a 100% sure but from what i read I could get a 392 athena or 392 cub without changing the crank, reads and carbs. I'd probably change those soon after but at least i wouldnt have to get everything at once.
Its a good idea to rebuild the bottom end if you really messed up the top end. Gotta get all those little chunks out as said above.
as for boring to the next size over, i know for a fact that my local machine shop is going to charge me a ridiculous amount to do it, so i'd have to send my jugs somewhere? can you even bore the sleeve or do i need new sleeves?
If you don't have any deep scratches, gouges, or chips taken out of the cylinder wall, and aren't at your maximum bore (66.50mm) you will be able to bore your current cylinders without resleeving. Best bet would be send the jugs out to a site sponsor like fast, hjr, or wildcard and get it bored and buy all your parts from them.
And im new to the term porting, is that something that gets done by a machine shop as well? and can i order a top end kit thats already ported that wouldnt require changing the crank?
Porting is done by a builder. It is your best bang for your buck. If you are riding a stock engine and want more power I would get it ported. A builder can port a motor to perform however you prefer. Lots of top end/mid range/low end.
Even if you buy an athena or cub kit, ideally you would still want to spend the money to get it ported to your specific tastes.
Yes, you can just get your top end ported with no modification to your bottom end or crank.
If I was you I wouldnt spend the money on new cylinders, if you can get away with it, and get your top end built by a sponsor. Then you can also use the money you saved from the big bore cylinders and spend it on the bottom end. Might as well do it right from the get go and you won't have to worry.
Get in touch with a site sponsor and they can really steer you in the right direction.

It dosnt take much to lose a pound a minute. Seal up your exhaust plug and try again.
-
I am loosing air somewhere and have sprayed all over trying to find it during a leak down test. (I cannot hold 6 psi for 6 minutes) Do I have to take off clutch cover and stuff and drain coolant in order to leak down test for the crank seal in order to find it?
Double check your intake and exhaust plugs. If you know they are good it could be either clutch or flywheel side. Could start with flywheel so you dont have to drain coolant and oil.

How bad is the top end? You sure you cant just rebore the cylinders and buy new pistons?
-
No problem. Good to hear you found the problem,
You should probably rebuild the bottom end if the piston was that chewed up. That is if your going to fix it.

I was given this banshee as payment for 3 hr. of welding on a nova. The guy said it had been sitting a year. He said he thought it had low compression but it runs. Well it does run but like shit It Boggs in first and in 6th and backfires and overheats. I checked that plug wires were not crossed and bought new plugs checked the reeds they are not cracked but don't lay flat also a reed cage gasket was ripped. Put silicone on tear and put back together and have same problem. I pulled impeller and it looked rough but spun with kick starter. What do I do next I'm clueless. The bike has boost bottle fmf fatty gold jugs and power core 2 pipes any help would be greatly appreciated.
Check for spark, check compression(should be around 125psi stock), clean carbs and air filter, make sure you have no air leaks.
If it has compression, good chance the carb just needs a good cleaning.

Is that really exactly what you were thinking? He just beat you to it.
Dosnt take a rocket scientist to see that rod smashed through the wrong side of the skirt.
-
Now I'm no detective, but by the crack in the piston and with how well that rod fits in there. And how the arrow on the piston is facing backwards, it would appear you assembled the motor wrong....
Exactly what I was thinking.

I run +3 +1 with 4-1 offset hyper wheels
-2 swing arm. 22" razr 2 up front with 20" in the rear.. I ride 90% trails. Never clipped a tree from being too wide.
-
I don't really have any complaints with mine either. I've got works triple rates with remote rezies and laegers arms.
Just saying its never gonna be close to a yfz450 or trx450.
-
I've got +1 arms on my quad and do nothing but trail ride. My front end is about 45.5" wide. To be honest I wish I had +2 arms. Ive never once had a problem with being to wide to fit through trees. Most 4x4 quads around here are closer to 48" so as long as I am under that I should be more then fine.
I've got some pictures somewhere I will try and dig up for you.
-
Even with +2 as the banshee won't come close to any of the new 450's in handling. The bad handling on the Banshee comes from a poor frame design. If you look at the new 450's you will notice the a-arms attatch to the frame a lot closer together. This is the main reason for the poor handling.
