Hey, just wanted to get some opinions on this.

 

I have welded lower motor mounts. So when I launch it is more stable. So you can see my dilema, when trying to get the old motor bushings out of the mounts. I am not talking about the rubber part. I can get that baby out. I am talking about the outer metal washer type thing that holds the whole bushing together. If you don't know what i'm talking about i'll try to explain.

 

I ordered new bushings from the stealership because mine were kinda old. When I received the new ones this is what came with it;

 

The inner metal washer that the bolt slides through to screw into the bottom of the cases.

The rubber bushing surrounding that.

Then another metal washer on the outside encompassing the whole bushing.

 

I guess all of that together makes the bushing. That is what is supposed to drop into the lower mounts. Well I can't seem to get the old outer metal washer out of the mount. It seems to be fused for some reason. I have tried heating and banging and even c-clamping. Anybody have this problem before? Or am I just reading way to much into this?

keep in mind i am at work so i dont have a mount in front of me, but i dont recall having another washer on the lower mounts. I can see and feel the rubber on both sides of the the mount?

I guess i'm not wording everything right. I'll try to get up pictures and see if that will help at all.

 

Maybe you meand Sleeve instead of washer.

 

The center steel sleeve tub that the bolt goes through is surounded by the rubber. Then there is a thin steel sleeve on the out side of the rubber. Right?

you should be able to push that sleeve out with evrything in it. It might be locked in there becasue of rust and grim over the years. try some pb blaster. or get a bolt and put a washer on it that will fit to the inside of the moton and put it all into a vise and turn it in. they dont slide very easy even when they are brand new

That's what i'm sayin' man. I have tried heating it with a torch, then put the socket on top of it right away and tried to clamp it out. Still nothing.

 

You think I would be able to just cut it in half carefully with a dremel and take it out in pieces?

At the salvage yard when we would put new bushings in leaf springs we would burn the rubber out with a toarch. It left behind that same type of sleeve you have stuck. We would use an air hammer with a chisle bit. It would ethire push the out side sleeve out or it would cut it. Then we would just use a screw driver to pry it out if it cut it.
