docjcwatson Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 This is a fresh rebuild straight from LC Performance. I got the motor to start on Friday. Kicking it over a bunch of times and then finally it started right up. I go through all of my heat cycles that Lynn wanted me to. I drain the tank of the 32:1 Methanol/Klotz mix, and throw in the 18:1 93 oct/Yama2R mix. Nothing. The bike didn't want to start for anybody. So I brought it home and threw in the towel for the night. Woke up saturday morning to start at it again, same thing. Does not want to start. I realize that one of my PVL tabs had snapped off. I fix it. Still won't start. I drain the purge gas, and put the alky back in it. Nothing. Now it's either getting really hard to kick, or because I have been kicking all day, I am a weak bitch. So saturday night I had to leave it overnight again. I am about to push it into oncoming traffic, as soon as my right leg stops hurting. Mods; 14mil Cheetah 250R reeds 40mm Mikuni's (set up for Dumont. I am at sea level) PVL ignition I just changed plugs, so they should be good. I have spark because I checked. I am getting fuel because I can see it. If I had to guess, it honestly feels like I am not kicking hard enough to get the motor to spin. If you need any more info, let me know. P.S. How long can I keep leaving it overnight with alky in the system? Quote
docjcwatson Posted August 3, 2008 Author Report Posted August 3, 2008 How far open should I be holding the throttle? Quote
docjcwatson Posted August 3, 2008 Author Report Posted August 3, 2008 Nevermind. I got it. I had to throttle it further. She runs like a raped date! Quote
travis6767 Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 you may want to check the timing if you have an adjustable plate. if it is to far advanced it will be hard to start Quote
locogato11283 Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 few things i see that might be problems.. 1. 18;1 oil ratio?? WTF! ditch that junk fuckin yamaha shit and run some klotz at 40 or 50;1.. its a wonder itll even start with that much oil. and i bet its not burning it all off. 2. whats your timing set at? with increased timing the bike will start differently. 3. you shouldnt be leaving alcohol in there at all. that shit will dry out your seals causing you even more problems. Quote
docjcwatson Posted August 3, 2008 Author Report Posted August 3, 2008 That was my problem. I couldn't start it, so I couldn't burn the purge gas. Which inevitaebly points to alcohol still sitting in the system. I have no Idea what the timing is. I got it to run now. I just have to hold the throttle open further to get it to kick over. She runs a hell of a lot better now that it is broken in. Don't worry, you guys will get to see the break in pass here in the next week or two. Thanks for the advice though Loco. I'll have to call Lynn and see what he says about the timing. He is the one that told my to mix my shit that way. Quote

docjcwatson Posted August 31, 2008 Author Report Posted August 31, 2008 also you want to make sure your purge gas gets burn all the way even out of your carb bowls so the the next time you get ready to start the bike it turns right on and doesnt have a bunch of purge gas in the cerbs...hope that helps I thought that running the bowls dry was a really bad idea? Whether it be alky or purge?? Quote
bada450r Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 I thought that running the bowls dry was a really bad idea? Whether it be alky or purge?? atleast get all the purge gas out of your fuel lines........what i do is i get the purge gas out the fuel lines and maybe wait a few more seconds and than just shut it off....maybe my bowls are not all the way empty but they are not full of purge gas eather..........sometimes i tip the bike on its side and try to get a little more out....................you just dont want to have your fuel lines all full with puge cuz than when you go to started it get a little hard............imo Quote
docjcwatson Posted August 31, 2008 Author Report Posted August 31, 2008 Ohhhhh ok. Then I was doing it right. You had me a little scared. Hahaha. My buddies are always wondering why I tip my bike. They think it will hurt her! Quote
