bansheejoel Posted April 7, 2008 Author Report Posted April 7, 2008 You may have a problem with one of your shifting forks. If memory serves, fourth gear and sixth gear share the same shifting fork. The shift drum grooves could be worn as well. When was the last time the shift mechanism was adjusted for the correct shift shaft gap? shift mechanism? i have no idea what that even is lol do you have to split the cases to do this?....anyone else..thanks Quote
okbeast Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 I believe he's talking about the elliptical screw we mentioned earlier. Quote
bansheejoel Posted April 7, 2008 Author Report Posted April 7, 2008 I believe he's talking about the elliptical screw we mentioned earlier. oh the pancake bearing screw? i tryed to adjust it the best i could but the manual does a shitty job describing how to adjust it. Could someone please tell me the correct way to adjust the pancake bearing bolt? im not sure if i did it correct. Quote
bansheejoel Posted April 7, 2008 Author Report Posted April 7, 2008 does anyone think i would gain anything by running atf type f in my trans instead of gear saver? I know i would have to change it alot more but thats fine with me, would it make it shift better? THANKS Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 I believe he's talking about the elliptical screw we mentioned earlier. That is correct. Quote
okbeast Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 No not the pancake bearing screw. That is what adjusts the arrow on the top of your cases, it should be very clear how to do it if you have a manual. The pancake bearing's are usually no different, unless you got one where you have to adjust it/tighten then put the outer plate on to check which is just a small PITA. The adjustment screw i'm talking about is behind your clutch cover and it is what the end of the shift shaft goes over. Quote
bansheejoel Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 . The adjustment screw i'm talking about is behind your clutch cover and it is what the end of the shift shaft goes over. So i think i found my problem, tell me if you think this could be it....first off the oring that goes on before the first friction plate is gone lol its torn all to hell. and that adjustment screw that goes on the shift shaft...someone took it out and put in a damn hex bolt and its not recessed at all like the factory one....do you think this could do anything? also should the clutch basket be able to move back in forth a little bit when in gear with the clutch off? thanks guys Quote
okbeast Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 The o-rings do not matter. The elliptical bolt is a must though. Quote
bansheejoel Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 The o-rings do not matter. The elliptical bolt is a must though. do you think that it being a hex bolt that is my shifting problem? how tight is it supposed to be mine was loose as hell. thanks Quote
bansheejoel Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 oh and my locknut is loose and i can move my shift shaft back and forth by moving the shifter. Would this cause it to shift shitty sometimes? i cant imangine it is good at all Quote
okbeast Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 (edited) It's not a tightness thing. You know on the clutch side of the shift shaft it has the 4 little bars I believe that go over that bolt then the piece that goes over the shift star. Well the screw is elliptical so it can be adjusted to be centered in the middle of the 2 bars on the shift shaft. ok so i got a pic off farmandsandtoys.com to try to show you. my description above is kinda incorrect. I believe the bolt goes through the hole labeled 1 but am not 100% sure. But if you have the correct bolt, when you turn it it move the shift shaft until you center the bolt in the hole. That make sense? Edited April 8, 2008 by okbeast Quote
bansheejoel Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 kinda, i thought that the locknut needed to be tight against the back of the shift shaft then bend over the metal tab to hold it from working loose. Do you think that the hex bolt just being put in there is my problem? Quote
okbeast Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Yes, because it is not allowing you to adjust your shift shaft correctly. Call a yamaha dealer or see if you can find one from nyuk or minkia38 on a part out bike. Quote
