KG03Banshe Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 03 Banshee will not shift through all gears without getting stuck halfway between. The shift mechansism works properly. We took out the gear sets and shifted through all the positions with no issues. When the gearsets are in the gears will clash and not allow the shafts to lock together. No bent shift forks, no broken teeth, no abnormal wear... NEED HELP?? Quote

If you spin the shafts when in the case and they have a hard spot in turning, there is something wrong. Also, if you have any radial slop in the shift fork pins, that will cause them to bind under load. Brandon Quote
theshee Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 have you tried adjusting it with that turn screw that goes in the shift shaft in the cluch case? Quote
KG03Banshe Posted February 28, 2008 Author Report Posted February 28, 2008 The forks and shafts seem to be fine. I took out the gears and the shift star detent and just rolled the barrel and nothing was binding. But when I rolled the barrel with the gears in the dogs kept getting pushed up against the next gear and the whole assembly stopped. I didn't adjust anything yet, what adjustment are you talking about??? Quote
KG03Banshe Posted February 28, 2008 Author Report Posted February 28, 2008 I just had a Yamaha service shop look at the gear box and they said nothing is wrong. But yet the transmission locked up when riding it. New question: Should you be able to shift through all the gears with the bike sitting still (motor in or out of the bike).???? Quote

Yes and no. things need to be moving for the dog ears to slip past each other. so just turn either shaft back and forth as you shift. my shift shaft was bent at the end and it would slip the rachet off the pins on the star, i bent it back and havent had any problems since. Also i found that the little alumium part on the cas that holds the shaft in wore and let it move about 1/16th of and it was enough to let the rachet slip off too. Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 New question: Should you be able to shift through all the gears with the bike sitting still (motor in or out of the bike).???? yes, as long as your gears are turning. Quote

I didn't adjust anything yet, what adjustment are you talking about??? If you have not opened the trans., sounds like you will need to. I am thinking you may have a broke or slipped circlip or severely bent shift fork. The problem should be easy to find if it is actually locking up. Something is wondering off. Brandon Quote
C&B Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 have you tried adjusting it with that turn screw that goes in the shift shaft in the cluch case? I agree w/ shee. Try adjusting the locating pin for the actual shift shaft, and make damn sure the shift shaft is in good working order, before you tear it down. Later Quote
blowit Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 where is this adjuster??? What does it adjust??? Quote
