I recently purchased an 02 banshee.. and the guy said it had an adjustable timing in it. how do I go about getting to this and adjusting it? Thanks in advance.

take off the stator cover, then using a puller pull off the flywheel, then lossen the bolt that hold the adjustable stator plate and set it to what you want....tighten the bolts replace the flywheel and the cover and your done.....hope i didnt forget anything

When you pull off the flywheel and stator, you'll see your timing plate. On the right of it while looking at it, there is a gauge on it. Loosen the bolts to twist the plate with the setting you want (usually 0 to +5) by lining it up with the split in your case. Use locktite when putting it all back together...don't want any screws flying around in there...

you dont have to take the flywheel off to adjust the timing..just take a 10mm wrench and loosen the 3 bolts holding the timing plate and simply set it at the desire timing........

most people that are on gas advance their timing to +4......hope that helps.... :geek: :geek: :geek:

im not tryin 2 hijack ur thread but i have a couple of timing plate questions also.

when i put my plate in what is the bast timing setting? also when i adjust the timing do i have to rejet? and do i have to run race gas??

well +4 sounds like a good start. try it and if you are at 0 now, you will notice a difference immediately. you could go up, but you have to listen for noise, and watch the plugs for signs of detonation. that is why these guys run race fuel because with the higher compression, and more timing, they need higher octane to prevent it. but in my opinion, you would be fine at 4 degrees, over that and you risk damage if your not experienced with tuning.

thanks alot bro its my first shee and i ride it in all enviorments as i do with my raptor and im new to tuning a shee. i can tune 4 stroke carbs and a basic blaster card but thats about it

ive done every bolt on mod except for an adjustable timing plate and it sounds like its kind of tough to do. im going to go with the pro-design one. id like to put one on my shee but i dont want to fuck anything up. how long would it take me to do this? and do you think if i put on a noss coolhead with no problems (just very time consuming) that i would be able to install an adjustable timing plate with no problems as well? ive been reading up and i know i have to get a flywheel puller, ive also read about it on the banshee electrical faq and thats what confused me and made me want to wait to get it installed by a builded when i get my shee ported and the flywheel lightened but i want to get the power advantage asap instead of wait till the end of summer when im gettign my shee rebuilt. how long and difficult do you think this mod will take to install?

1.pull foot pegs of 14mm socket

2pull shifter out 12mm socket

4.pull screws out of the side cover[use an impact screw driver]

4.pull flywheel ou twith a fly wheel puller[you also need an impact gun]you can also use a 14 and a 17 mm wrench

5.unplug your stater from your cdi and light and and all that stuff and stuff

6.pull the 3 bolts 10mm/phillips holding your stator plate to the cases of the bike[and also the ones holding your stater to the stator plate]bolt the stater to new timing plate same way you took it of

7.unbolt your black ignition box[its connected to the stater plate]and put it on the new timing plate

8.put your new timing plate back on and leave it just a little loose,set the desire time and tighten

9,DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING ESPECIALLY MAKE SURE YOUR KEY TO THE FLYWHEEL IS IN PLACE[make sure that you use an impact to tighten your flywheel]it should not take more than 1 to 1 1/2 hours :banghead: :banghead:
