old87shee Posted January 22, 2008 Author Report Posted January 22, 2008 lol yeh, sorry i have no idea what a WOT test is, i looked but couldnt find it in the forum either Quote
old87shee Posted January 23, 2008 Author Report Posted January 23, 2008 nevermind i found it lol, and the problem ( while in gear and riding it ) is definately from 3/4 to full throttle, i have no surging or lost power anywhere else, and it idles perfectly, usually takes a few kicks to start, when its cold, but starts first kick when its warm out Quote
THE GRIM RIPPER Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Get rid of the pods brotha... take the stack exaust apart and let carb cleaner soak in the pipes for a while.... (Or any solvent cleaner really) EXCEPT for the silencers themselves... they cant be soaked.... After youve removed all the oil build up in the exhaust (just a guess there is oil all in them) get your self a stock air box off Gaybay, and rock with a KnN from there.. Now your ready to rejet  Quote
yamaha04 Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 sounds like jetting to me what jets are you running and what mods does it have also what elevation are you at. i dont think it would have anything to do with the pipes. never really heard of a pipe beig carboned up? correct me if im wrong please but this is new to me. its forsure jetting if it still has close to the stock jets in it because of the pods you will be flowing was more air. mean yu need more fuel on top. or if the dealership jetted it like you said and its puffing thick blue on top then it could be breacking up because they jetted it to rick on top. yamaha04 Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 here you can find all kinda of info on jetting in the jetting section here a bit of an artical i copyied from there Main Jet: Finally the good old main jet comes into play at three-quarters open to full throttle conditions. Most of you already know a bigger main jet has a bigger hole so it lets more gas into the engine! Pretty simple! As simple as it is the minuet is absolutely CRITICAL to high-speed engine operation. Not only does it meter the gas into the engine, it can aid in cooling the engine as well. A properly sized main jet will let the engine make good power for a long time. One size smaller main jet may make greater power for awhile. A slightly rich mixture burns cooler than a lean one so be sure the main jet is big enough! Quote
old87shee Posted January 23, 2008 Author Report Posted January 23, 2008 ok so i called the service shop and talked to the tech that worked on it last, he put 250 mains in it, because thats what the book called for at our elevation, we are at 4860 ft, and its cold as all hell right now, but it ran like this when it was 90 outside too, so yeh, ok id rather not have to put the stock box back on, but if i have to then ill order another one from egay, so if anyone know what jets i should run with pods at 4800 ft, maybe that would help? hell i don't know, im about ready to just tear the damn thing apart and start over lol Quote
yamaha04 Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 its jetting wrong thats your problem you dont need to tear it down nore do you need to get an air box. is it smokeing when your past 3/4 throttle if so step down a size on the main and see if that clears up the 3/4 to full throttle hesitation. Quote
old87shee Posted January 24, 2008 Author Report Posted January 24, 2008 yeh its smoking for sure when i really get on it, but barely smokes at all before that, so if im at a 250, what should i step down to? Quote
old87shee Posted January 24, 2008 Author Report Posted January 24, 2008 Ok so i decided I'm going to do a mild upgrade to this thing, I'm thinking T-5's, V-3's, and then a whole bunch of billet stuff, if i go with the pipes, should i just hold off on changing my jets right now? I'm sure I will have to change them again when i put the pipes on....... also any other simple mods you guys think would help my performance, let me know Quote
sheefreak Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Stock jetting at your elevation should not be 250, I am not sure what book he is looking at. There is not a book that says if you have pods and are at 4??? whatever ft elevation then run 250's and it certainly does not say that in the maint. manual. You can get it running right w/pods and stock pipes, but isn't going to help performance much if any. You really need to do a plug chop. It is hard saying at your elevation, and current temp. what is going to be right for your setup. That being said, you will probably still be a little lean in the winter at that elevation w/t5's, pods, and 250's. That may work for you during the summer. Maybe someone like Jarrod will chime in who has experience at the elevation you are at, but plug chop is the way to get it right. Always start rich and go from there...300's maybe w/the new setup you are speaking of. Quote
old87shee Posted January 24, 2008 Author Report Posted January 24, 2008 well in the summer when i do most of my riding, its usually around 95 or so, im nto really interested in winter riding, lol thats what sleds are for Quote
sheefreak Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 The bad thing is you can't really set up your jetting now for summer riding. You could get it going right and possibly going down 2 to 3 jet sizes for summer... Post a pic of your spark plugs. Quote
old87shee Posted January 24, 2008 Author Report Posted January 24, 2008 i will get some posted as soon as i can, im at work at the moment Quote
old87shee Posted January 27, 2008 Author Report Posted January 27, 2008 was also thinking of putting a cool head on, any recommendations on dome size? Quote
