xsinnerx Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 (edited) I knew my compression was getting low 110 on one side 115 on the other, so I figured it was time for me to do my first top end and while I had the cylinders off I'd send them off for some porting. When I pulled the head off I knew I was going to need more than just a hone. I found lots of pitting on the side of the head that had 110 psi the other looked ok. When I went to pull the cylinder off the low side I noticed right away that one retaining clip was missing on that piston. The pistons have 75 stamped on the top, am I right in assuming that means 64.75 ?? here are a few pictures of the mess I found. I'm taking the cylinder to a machine shop tomorrow to see how much boring I need. I'm hoping its not so much that it isnt worth porting anymore, I'd like to have quite a few bores left if I were to port them. just from these pics do you guys think I have much life left in these cylinders? http://s172.photobucket.com/albums/w24/xsinnerx11/ Edited January 16, 2008 by xsinnerx Quote
trex banshee Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 well man its not lookin good for ya. To do it all right and make the bike run its best you would need to sleeve them,,,,or just get different cylinders, that is if you get them ported. Now i have 3 sets of cylinders that i have ran with the grooves in them. Around my area we call them wrist pin cylinders! anyways they will still run which you have probably found out but they are not worth paying someone to port them. However they will work fine to keep your bike running while you find another set. Quote
BansheeKid15 Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 The gouges in the cyinder wall look pretty deep from the pics. Quote
shee rips Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 that sucks. im surprised there was still 110 psi in thati think you could bore that out, but it would take quite a bit to do it. i dont know how much it would take to clean it up but it may not be worth porting them if you have to bore it to say .080 because there wouldnt be much life left in them... thats my take on the situation Quote
xsinnerx Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Posted January 16, 2008 I'm thinking that it's not gonna be worth saving, so i just bought a set of stock bore jugs that need to be bored to the first oversize. Quote
