BansheeNdaBluff Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 I changed my front drive sprocket and when I put the nut back on I found that the threads on the nut and shaft are bad. I have since gotten a new nut and lock washer. I`m pretty sure the threads are 18mm x 1.0... I hope I can find a die rethreader and rethread the threads on the shaft...My problem is Where can I find a Die rethreader this size... I looked around a little with no luck. Thanks in advance. Quote
Whitbread Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 18mmx1.0 sounds about right if my memory serves me right. Your best bet it to check with local tool and die or machine shops. If they can't help, start calling some industrial tooling supply places such as Morse Cutting Tools on Stephenson highway in Michigan. I happen to live near them and have bought lots of odd taps and dies from them before. Good luck! Quote

shanYE west Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 The only place I found that had one big enough was Snap-on. Ran into this problem last year on my cousins cub when he forgot to bend the tab on the lock washer. Quote
Toybreaker Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Triangle file(if the threads aren't completely hosed) Or try any of the industrial supply outlets. J&L industrial is my current favorite for that type of stuff their prices might be the best on everything but their customer service and shipping times and hard to beat. Quote
shanYE west Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Triangle file(if the threads aren't completely hosed) You mean a thread file? Thread file would work if the threads wern't messed up too bad like you said. Quote
BansheeNdaBluff Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 You mean a thread file? Thread file would work if the threads wern't messed up too bad like you said. First of all I want to think everyone for their input .I really appreaciate it. This is what I did...I took my new nut to my work and the machinest took a thread pitch guage and confirmed it was a 18m x 1.0...I told him about my situation and he told me the same thing that Toybreaker said...If the threads weren`t to bad on the shaft I could possibly take a triangle file and file the threads and stand them back up some what...He gave me a triangle file and when I got home I went and took my time and filed the threads back up and put the lock washer on and then the nut...Wow it went right on with no problem...I tighten it up pretty good, bent the lock washer down...I`m ready to try it...I will try it tomorrow.....Thanks guys,I hope I have a chance to help someone like you all have helped me... I`m still going to check these places for a die rethreader...just in case. Quote
Toybreaker Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 thread files are for "midly" damaged threads. Triangle files can "restore" some threads that a lot of people would say are toast. Glad to hear the triangle file worked for you... be careful in the future. Splitting your case to replace that shaft is no fun. I had a friend use an impact on the drive sprocket nut and crossthread the fuck out of it. No fixing that one! Quote
