fitz18 Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 Today is not going as planned. Firstly I blew the left piston and have decided to take the opportunity to do a full rebuild and port job. I took the cylinders to my machine guy to bore them and they are beyod repair! So my first problem is that I need a new cylinder (which are like gold dust over here, so il prob have to buy two)!! :: So I go home and im like well fuck it may as well split my cases and get the rest of my piston out and give the tranny a good clean so I start into it and notice a small hole in the top half of the case :: This is a shit day on the banshee rebuild!! Anyway i basically just wanted to moan about it but here are a couple of questions 1. Can i just get the top half case and put it with my bottom half or do I need to get the full matching set like clymers says? 2. This question is prob a long shot but have any of you's guys ever sent parts to ireland? If so would i have to pay tax on them?? I know its a long shot to ask that but parts are so hard to find here and are really expensive. Cheers guys and sorry bout the long post!! Quote
Bansh-eman Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 its "best" to have jugs and cases tat have been worn down together. just helps make sure all your toleracnes check and that you dont have work done to one of them that wasnt to the other... as far as sending parts to ireland. a whole motor weighs about 100 lbs. so your shipping cost is going to be insane from the states, plus if you have to pay any kind of taxes Quote

Also i would only be buying the jugs and if necessary cases from the states. I will have to look into postage as there are some jugs and cases on ebay. Cheers for the reply Quote
Bansh-eman Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 yea you "can" use miss matched cases and jugs its just not recommended. Quote
Washburn Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Buying a matching set of cases is the rite thing to do, tolerance/clearing issues, matching perfectly ect.. your gambeling just buying the one and that could end up costing 3xs what you need now in the long run. look for a set of already ported cyls to specs your looking for on ebay and that should save you some cabbage. Im not sure about tax. I sent a package that weighed around 45-50lbs to Australia and it costed 210.00 to ship UPS Quote

Im thinking I might take the gamble and buy from the states. It seems to be hit or miss if the customs try to charge you tax. Im having no luck finding any cylinders (never mind ported ones) over here. Ill prob do the same with the cases as well. Thanks for the input. Quote

WALLACE84 Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Like everyone else is saying, get cases that match and you can also just resleeve your cylinders Quote
fitz18 Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 yeah definatly gonna try get cases to match. Not sure about getting the cylinders reslieved. Is it a big success?? Also are the slieves not very expensive? Quote
fastbanshee8 Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 If the hole in the case isn't real bad, then why don't you have someone weld it up? That would be a lot cheaper, and faster, than finding, and buying different cases. Just find someone that welds aluminum. My builder has done this many times, without any problems. Quote
