layinlowtruck Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 I was out at winchester last weekend. I was in the middle of a tree shoot going up in 3rd gear and needed to down shift into 2nd, so I did or tried but it clicked like it went into gear but it didnt. So I thought maybe i didnt hit it hard enough or get in gear right, so i backed down and tried again. Same thing happened but this time in went into neutral. But it seems like it wants to but doesnt quite go in. So pretty much i thinking that something is going wrong in the tranny or my shift star. I want to know if anyone has had this problem. Quote
fastbanshee8 Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 I had a similar problem years ago, but the seal behind the counter-shaft sprocket was bad, and some dirt, and debris got in the tranny, and bound things up. Nothing got tore up, but everything had to be cleaned up, and washed out. Quote
Snopczynski Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Usually chipped gears or bent shift forks cause that. Quote
fastbanshee8 Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Usually chipped gears or bent shift forks cause that. It depends, because bent shift forks was the diagnosis that I got on mine, before tear down. He won't know for sure, until it gets tore down. I was just giving him an idea, of what could be wrong, and I wasn't saying that my idea was the correct one. Quote
layinlowtruck Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 thanks guys i just wanted to make sure that it wasnt something simple. Quote
Snopczynski Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Unfortunately it usually never is simple with transmission problems. Pull the cover off first, if you dont see anything wrong split the cases. Quote
swrbansheeboy Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 we had a problem kind of similar to that on one of our bikes a couple years ago and it turned out to be the c shaped armature on the end of the shift shaft had busted in two. i would drain the oil and pull the clutch cover and inspect that first then start working your way down the money spiral. hope it's that easy for you... We had that happen back in the 90's, had to weld that little bastard back together out at the dunes. Quote
layinlowtruck Posted June 7, 2007 Author Report Posted June 7, 2007 im going to pull the cover right now i will let you guys know. Quote
layinlowtruck Posted June 10, 2007 Author Report Posted June 10, 2007 Pulled off the cover and it seems that the shift lever has about a half an inch of play in it. So i think i need to put a washer/shim to make up for that. Quote
Snopczynski Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 Something is probably broken in there, dont jimmy rig it. Quote
