CRAZY-SHEE! Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 ok.. so i decided to go on a family riding day today, even though it was hottter then hell. Since we were riding trails, i brought my screw around all stock banshee. Now, were got there at 8, and we started riding, about 9 it was 100 degrees out. Now we decided to stay till 1, and me, my dad, and my cousin decide to go on a trail ride. Now were about 50 miles out when, while in a dried up river bed we were in, i noticed the banshee started losing power, but i just figured it was overheating. So i keep going. Now eventualy we stop, and since im taking up the rear, AKA roost city, We stop to take a breather. as we stop, i notice that whern i look behind me, MY RIGHT EXAUST IS SMOKING WHITE SMOKE SOMETHING FIERCE. i was like, UH OH. So, i call my dad back, after chasing him down, and tell him we gotta head back NOW cause i got a coolant leak. so we head back. the ride back with the leaking coolant as about 15 minutes on rough terrain. It was about 105 out. What do i need to do to this? never had a coolant leak yet.. figured its the head... havent gotten to look at it yet. Was it the heat that caused this? Do i need to replace the pistons now? do i need to bore it? replace the head? etc? thx its an all stock 88 soo.. u know.. its OLD. but for 800 bucks? it works. Quote

You should have stopped when you "figured it was overheating" Could be a crank seal or a bad base/head gasket... its hard to tell. If you are lucky its just a gasket kit and perhaps a top end kit. joneser4u Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 (edited) probably headgasket, once you pull the head youll find out? Might have burnt the rings too? Alot can be told just from looking at your plugs? Edited May 21, 2007 by joneser4u Quote
CRAZY-SHEE! Posted May 21, 2007 Author Report Posted May 21, 2007 so hopefullt just a gasket? do i have to rebuild the top? Quote

You may be just unlucky but something to check is if there is an obvious area of the gasket that is eroded indicating possible detonation. I only say that because of the high temps you were riding in. If the gasket just failed, replace it and role on. If it was detonation or even preignition, you may have some carbon deposits or something causing some auto ignition. Just find the source or post some pics of your damage if you find any and we will help you get back to riding. Brandon Quote
fastrthnu Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 did you look to see if the coolant is still full or if it was before you left? same with tranny oil? Quote
CRAZY-SHEE! Posted May 21, 2007 Author Report Posted May 21, 2007 didnt check it there cause i just got done running. (pressurized) and i was exausted when i got home so i just shoved everything in the garage. As for tranny oil.. ddidnt check that but what would that have to do with this? its white smoke... not blue. Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 here was mine. I had a bad crank seal. It was white smoke and did not really smell. If you are lucky it is just a seal. if your not it is a rebuild. Good luck. Quote
