Wertzy Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Don't ask me how, but they have come up missing. I've looked everywhere and can't find them. So is there someway of getting another key from the dealer I got it from or have one made at a locksmith? Should I just skip all that and hotwire it so no key is needed? LOL Quote
bigdaddy69 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Just hot wire around it. Wire it into a toggle switch under the seat or something, thats what I did. Quote

fastrthnu Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 cut into the wires on the switch side of the harness so you still have the plug,. there are 4 wires. red, brown, brown/red, and brown/white. Twist the 2 bigger guage wires (red, brown) together and the 2 smaller guage wires together (brown/red, brown/white). this will bypass the key,. then you can find a new switch with matching key and still plug it in without a splice later. Also when your not riding you can take the splice side of the harness off,. and the bike wont start. Rustbag Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 You could hot wire it. But the dealer can get u a new switch and key for about $50. That's what I would do. No need to bubba up ur bike like that, then anyone can take it for a spin without the key. My 2cents Quote

My 2cents While I agree with that, Most people who are going to take your bike for a ride without the key I.E. Steal it, Probably can hot wire a bike faster than we can turn the key. So it really doesnt matter. Quote
Wertzy Posted April 4, 2007 Author Report Posted April 4, 2007 Yeah I ended up finding my key in the washer. LOL Quote
The Faster Cracker Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 if you bought the bike new from a dealership you can get a new key made. if you have the key number, which should be on the setup sheet and your papers as well, that would help tremenosuly. if not i think it is possible to get a key from yamaha by using the vin number but im not sure. someon on here might have an ignition that they want to sell as well. MILO Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Yeah I ended up finding my key in the washer. LOL hey bud, i've done that before, lol. we (8 of us)went on a poker run about 120 miles from home. when we got there i couldn't find my key. i swear i had put it in the truck before leaving, and then in my pocket when we unloaded there. man i was going nuts looking for it so i wouldn't have to sit out the ride. my buddy and i finally hotwired it and i rode anyway. when i washed my pants later, i found it wrapped up in the inner liner of my pants at the bottom of the pant leg. it had fallen thru a hole in my pocket and i had it with me during the whole ride. :yelrotflmao: then on the ride home, my truck motor blew up and left us stranded on the interstate for a few hours. when we got home, my buddies wife was furious cuz she was having difficulties with her pregnancy and was rushed to the hospital while we were out. it was a pretty sucky day. come to think of it, my buddy hasn't gone on a poker run with me since. Quote
