Bansh-eman Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 ok so normally you can just tap the back of the spindle with a ruber hammer to break it loose... but the hubs dont want to move... what have you guys been successful with? dont have a puller was wondering if you guys got some good ways to do it minus the puller... if not sears i guess willbe on my "todo" list tomorrow Quote
kaotik1 Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Loosen the nut on the spindle. Place a 2x4 on it's side so you are looking at the 2 inch side, hold the spindle and slam the nut on the 2x4. Cheap way out, and works well. Quote
okbeast Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Air chisel works good too   Quote
Trick2stroke Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 soak it with wd 40, then a few good whacks should take care of it. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted March 6, 2007 Author Report Posted March 6, 2007 if your hub needs an air chisle you got bigger issues lol.... normally you can just tap the back of it and it pops off... ill try flipping it and slamming it on a board see if that works.. i hope so casue i really dont feel like buying a puller to use for this... Beats screwing something up trying to take a shortcut Quote
kaotik1 Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Wood is softer than the metal, and wont mess anything up. You are just directing the force to the spindle and away from the hub. It may take a few hits to do it but cheaper than having to buy anyting and works about everytime. Quote

You're killing me here (I don't have a bench vise at hoe either). A pickle fork tool used for removing automotive ball joints may be another way to get this done, if you were to drive it in between the upright and hub. If that requires a trip to Harbor freight then you might as well just buy an appropriate puller. If you are still having trouble by this weekend and can talk your self into a drive to the Irvine / Costa Mesa area, we can just taker it to my work, stick it on a press and be done with it. I think we could probably sort out your upper a-arm bolt issue at the same time. Quote

Keep me posted on what you want to do. I think I may have prematurely offered to help this weekend as I think I am supposed to be Vwgas for the Nastycar races starting on Thursday. I am not 100% sure of the dates of the race as it might be the weekend after next. I hate having a shitty memory. I should be back to in my office late tomorrow so I will be able to check my schedule then. If I do have to be in Vegas this weekend and you have alot of free time on your hands, we could just take the parts to the track and sort out your stuff there. Quote

Washburn Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Did you try spraying it heavily with liquid wrench letting it soak for about 20 and pounding it with a rubber mallet or a piece of a 2xheavy and a mallet. Thats simple and should do it. Quote
