sheeblue01 Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Hey I just rebuilt with the stock bore size and with about an hour on the motor the rings on the right side of the motor came apart destroying the piston but by some miracle the cylinder walls are alright but will need to be honed... now when I rebuilt it I put wiseco pistons in it... well being christmas time and me being in college I havent had money to buy a new piston.. For christmas my rents bought me a new piston, rings, and gaskets so I can put it back together but they bought Genuine Yamaha rings and piston... Do you think there is a difference in weight between the two brands of pistons? If so do you think it will cause any problems for me? Thanks for any help.. Quote

Yes, the weisco is a forged piston and the stocker is a cast piston, the weight of each piston is diff. so the imbalanced weight could become a problem for you over time. Also, any time you replace pistons, you need to check your ring end gap, if it's too tight you need to file the rings, if it's too large you have to bore the cylinder. Quote
HotCarl Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Are you thinking of running one stock style piston and one wisco? Bad idea Quote
locogato11283 Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 you need to run the same pistons in each side. doing otherwise will cause problems. Quote
